Qantas Silver to Gold Help

I'm going for a bronze -- > Platinum run. I've got a MEL - GDG with Emirates business (280 each way), and a MEL - LAX with Qantas on the 787. Both business.

On a side note, I had no access to my wife free tickets on the USA run due to my Bronze status. Agent kept telling me they never have seats for free business which was a complete lie), but, I got my mother (SG) to book over phone as her login showed plenty of available seats, but would cause an unknown error when paying.

The fantastic agent kept me on hold for about 10 mins while she chatted to her supervisor (She was adamant that the flights weren't there but I held my guns) and she eventually made the booking with me over the phone.

I might be too late, but the DSC promo seems to be a good opportunity to bump your status!

I'd be looking at doing a status run ex LAX once in the USA!

For SYD-LAX, there are lots of possibilities. Which class of travel are you looking for? Flying JQ J to HNL (with a business max bundle) and then starting an AA status run from HNL to LAX (or beyond) is probably one of the cheaper ways of earning many SCs for a low-ish cost. But that might not be a desirable routing for you. There's also FJ via NAN, and various options via Asia.
Thanks so much Mattg - very helpful advice. I ended up being very lucky as I got bogged down at work and didn;t book anything and then the latest double SC promo was announced. So I pounced and have booked a return Syd-Bris-Lax flex economy fare which will nett 440 SCs and get me across the line. :)

Hi All,

My wife has done most of the travelling for work this year and is now on her way from Silver to Gold but the work travel may have dried up for the remainder of the year. She currently has 490 Qantas SC and needs 210SC more for Gold she still has till the end of the year to do it.

Can anyone recommend any tip or tricks on the best and cheapest way to get to the pot of Gold?

We are based in Melbourne.

David :)
Took advantage of the double SC and will get her over the line, thanks everyone for the tips.
