I had this question buried in another post but no replies - hope this is the right place to ask. I am travelling with my wife from Mel-Hkg on Economy N. Separate booking references which have been linked.

If one has selected a seat, does the other automatically get allocated the one adjacent?

No. Just go in to both bookings and select seats accordingly.

Sometimes when the bookings are linked, both travellers will have access to seats on the basis of the higher tier held by one of them. It has happened for us when I was WP and Mr Seat 0A was only SG. But you do have to select it - not automatically allocated.

If you can’t do that - and it has also happened to me - I just called and asked to be seated together. No drama, quickly sorted. Have the person with highest status make that request.

The problem is that under her booking I don't have access to the same seating area that I had selected for myself
and that’s the big problem having seperate bookings with different status levels.

Even with the same status, there can be anomalies as I reported here (2x WPs travelling domestic whY).

There was some discussion in that thread about linked bookings bestowing some slightly better seat options for lower levels.

Ideally, it’s best to be on the same booking.

You might have better options at T-80 and then again at T-24 / OLCI.
