Qantas schedules more flights to Asia, US

Jame Freed said:
The airline said on Wednesday it would increase the number of A380 flights between Sydney and Hong Kong, move to daily flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles, operate seasonal services between Perth and Auckland and re-time daily flights between Sydney and Christchurch to allow for better connecting options.

There's a QF press release:

Qantas announces improvements to international services
QF PR said:
The improvements are:

  • Starting a new route, Perth–Auckland*, to be offered on a seasonal basis between early December and the end of January, operated by a Qantas A330 aircraft twice per week.
  • Upgrading one return Sydney–Hong Kong service to an Airbus A380 aircraft, increasing the number of A380 return services on this route from four to five per week.
  • Increasing frequency to daily on Brisbane–Los Angeles* using the aircraft made available by the A380 upgrade on the Hong Kong route.
  • Retiming Qantas’ existing Sydney–Christchurch* service so that it connects with more international services from Sydney and complements the existing Emirates service on this route.

A new seasonal twice-weekly service between Auckland and Perth (Dec-Jan), adding almost 1,000 seats per week to what is currently a monopoly route over the busy Christmas and summer holiday period.

First service from Perth will be 6 December 2013 and the last service from Auckland will be 1 February 2014. The aircraft will be an internationally configured A330 with Skybeds in Business.

QF112 will depart Auckland at 11:40am and arrive in Perth at 2:05pm

QF111 will depart Perth at 8:30pm and arrive in Auckland at 7:50am

The dedicated Christchurch to Sydney service (QF138) will move from an afternoon departure to a 7:30am departure and Sydney to Christchurch will move to a 6:50pm departure. The Qantas code will be available on the Emirates flight from Christchurch, which leaves at a similar time as Qantas’ current service.

The retiming removes the need for South Island residents to fly via Auckland to connect with key international flights out of Sydney and complements the existing Emirates service by providing a double daily service scheduled at either end of the day.

Qantas flights between Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to Australia will be retimed to increase the number of onward connections to the Australian domestic network, Asia, the US and UK and Europe, and reduce overlap of Qantas and Emirates flights.

Changes to flight numbers, providing more sequential alignment.

The schedule is being progressively loaded from today for travel after 27 October 2013.

All Qantas customers with existing bookings for travel from 27 October 2013 and who are impacted by the changes will be contacted progressively from 14 August 2013 by Qantas or their Travel Agent and appropriately reaccommodated.

Nothing yet on airlineroute.

Anyone know what day the extra A380 HKG service is?
Assume this just comes from greater aircraft usage now that all the conversions are done.

Re: Qantas International Rediscovers Perth

Futher to that they've now also clarified which aircraft will be operating the service, an A330 with Skybeds.

Re: Qantas International Rediscovers Perth

The Air NZ direct flight must be pulling good numbers

That's what I want to know - or are they leasing an extra A380?

Re: Qantas International Rediscovers Perth

Hopefully it succeeds and they continue it beyond February.

NZ has 7x weekly over summer, and they will add 2x weekly to CHC at the same time QF is launching 2x weekly PER-AKL. So it makes sense for QF to try and grab some of that.

QF will arguably be at a product disadvantage - NZ has 1-2-1 lie flats on its 777-200 as well as a Y+ cabin. In Y, however, I'd lean toward the 2-4-2 on the A330. Especially once NZ refits the 777-200s with 3-4-3.

Re: Qf akl-per

Loaded.

QF111 PER-AKL dep 2030 arr 0750+1 Fr, Sa
QF112 AKL-PER dep 1140 arr 1405 Sa Su

Re: Qf akl-per

It's probably stupidly priced, but weekend status run/Saturday in Auckland! 3323 miles so 25/50/100 SC each way.

Edit. Scrap that, for roughly the same price and timing I'd rather pickup the EK a380 out of SYD.
