This notice now appears on the Qantas Shopping Rewards Store website:

Due to high retail demand in Australia at present, we’ve introduced a limit for each member of 2 items per product per day to ensure the continued availability of products to as many members as possible.

Seems to apply to all products, not only gift cards.

Doesn't really worry me - I wasn't planning to rush out to redeem my Qantas points for 3 toasters in one day, anyway.

I note that Velocity introduced a limit of 1 gift card per day last Friday.

Its great to see that a bunch of points are being redeemed for non-flying stuff.

I see what you’re thinking, but I suspect most of these redeemers were the sort of people who mostly would never accumulate enough points to redeem an F or J reward anyway.
I'm not so sure, there's plenty of chatting in FF facebook groups of people using up their points for items to avoid losing said points. Particularly int he case of VA.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not at all worried about QF points, but definetly worried about VA points. Literally just cleared out the last dregs of Mums VA points.

Must buy QFF toasters before they‘re all gone!!

Seeiously, the run on QF as well as VA got a mention in Fairfax today. The run on purchases isn’t a run, they reckon
Qantas, Virgin tighten loyalty points spending

Qantas has limited purchases through its loyalty store to two items of each product every day in response to "high retail demand". The airline - which says there has not been a "run" on points - has told members the limit was to "ensure the continued availability of products to as many members as possible"...
However like most retailers, [QFF] was seeing people buy more gadgets online, she said

I think the QF "run" is mainly for those that have points but not enough for major travel - mainly leisure travelers.. and besides.. QF is more stable - this is because their profit is NOT mainly earned from flying, but their points - almost all of us have a card because of Woolies or now BP scheme on top of others..
