Qantas refund woes (gift voucher used)

Wanted to ask if anyone has encountered problems getting a refund on a Qantas flight that was partially purchased using a Qantas gift voucher?

I cancelled a refundable business class flight on 1 October 2025. It was paid using a VISA card and $50 Qantas gift voucher. The Visa component was refunded on 16 October but I had to make numerous calls regarding the gift voucher refund (ie get a new voucher issued). Was told several times that the voucher had been issued (it hadn't). Finally lodged a complaint with Qantas Customer Care, who told me voucher had been used for another flight (it hadn't ), then finally last week they sent me a replacement $50 gift voucher but it was listed as reimbursement reason: Gesture of Goodwill and was only valid for 12 months rather than 3 years (original voucher had 2 1/2 years expiry remaining).

Surely I'm not the first person that has asked for a refund where the flight was partially paid for by a gift voucher so I am wondering why Qantas doesn't seem to have a process in place to handle these?

While this isn't the answer that you are probably looking for.......

If you are planning on booking a QF flight over the next 12 months and are able to use this "goodwill" voucher, then I would do that rather than burn countless hours of time and energy chasing the longer dated gift voucher (which is probably what you are entitled to receive) . Sometimes the best course is just to exit the QF refund/compensation incompetence process at the earliest and easiest exit point rather than try to push through to try to get to the correct exit point.
