Qantas reciprocal relationship with KLM/Air France (2020 onwards)

but it would give more options to complete a OWA, at OWA pricing.
But it doesn't add more seats overall. This is the real problem imo. What s convenient for you and your redemption goal, assuming its OWA, just mean one less seat for someone else on a classic partner award.

I think we can just hope that some of the things bellow go back to normal:
- Transit via Japan possible for all pax
- CX operating at full flight capacity
- QR releasing award seats as it used to do for Qantas.
- EK drop it's taxes on its "points plus pay" awards.

True, but the KL/AF seats come with hefty surcharges, making them pretty much unviable for many flights… the cost of the carrier fees is more than the equivalent airfare in cash. They could however be used by some to complete a OWA. The ‘included’ points component potentially making them more attractive.

Aeroplan would be pretty much unusable based purely on star alliance availability, but being able to use EY and GF amongst others means you an cobble something together for a reasonable mileage price.

I am sitting in a departure gate at Schiphol, AMS, now. I checked in online before leaving Perth and the boarding pass displayed “Sky priority“ in the top right hand corner. At check in I went to priority lane where BP was scanned and I was passed through to priority check in counter. No questions asked about two suitcases. In fact, the lady pointed out to me the “Sky priority“ tag. When online check in message was sent to me in Perth, it also advised I could change my seat to any on the aircraft excluding J. So I chose 3A with more leg room and quick exit.

So the partnership definitely does work.

thanks for the update!

The tie let ex AMS was a separate ticket? If yes, what level? Economy basic or something which came with baggage included?

Good. We are flying KLM from LHR through to KL via AMS next year booked on a Qantas award ticket in J.

Did your ticket already include baggage allowance (independently of your status)?

I’m about to book an AF flight within France and cannot work out if the fares that do not include a bag will include some baggage allowance once I attach my SG number.

I think the consensus is that they’re supposed to include a free bag, but whether the system/checkin agents will know or honour it is the question.

If the system is capturing status and skyteam priority that might be indicative that it will also capture baggage.

It's been confirmed you should get an extra bag as allowance regardless of fare - if your ticket doesn't include a bag then you get one, if it does then you get two. Im assuming Port Power got a fare with a single bag allowance hence he took two bags which worked.

I booked Y. No extra baggage allowance. The extra bag no charge was because OneWorld Emerald .

Sky Priority was acknowledged, so an extra bag included over included bag.

Has anyone had any luck with calling Qantas to book a classic reward AF flight that appears in Expert Flyer but not on Qantas’s website? I can see some J/O AF flights that should be open to AF partners but can’t see it on Qantas.com

No - the award availability given to Qantas is not the same as what is available to Flying Blue members, Virgin Atlantic or other SkyTeam partners.

Anyone have any luck with preassigning a seat on intra europe flight? I am Gold and have an AF BHX-CDG coming up, my number is attached they tell me but won't let me choose a seat, maybe have to wait till check in?

I had to call AF to get it sorted out. In my experience, no wait time, great agent.

I had luck with J seats from DPS to BER on KL ... Appeared online was having issues with married segment logic and they did not display .. Called up and they could see and booked the DPS AMS BER segments ( via SIN) all in one PNR no issues.
Appears AF also applies the same logic, so a call might help if you have verified availability from other sources

Sigh, sadly this wasn't the case for me. Agent informed me partnership only meant I could get miles. Gently corrected her and asked her to look again. Nothing.. Asked for a supervisor, put me on hold for 15 mins to come back with no supervisor and just tell me the same thing.. So I asked again for a supervisor, hold for some more before she comes back that they want to contact HQ and call me back. Nothing so far, I am not hopeful it appears AF systems and staff know nothing of the partnership.
