Flew back from Adelaide to Melbourne Qantas last week after a cruise.Original flight was cancelled ,so was moved to a different flight,my question is boarding from the back was chaos as people seated in the rear section entered from the front i.e chaos. Would have been easier to load all from the front.Got to Melbourne & the usual bag wait. I wonder if the CEO has ever boarded from the back or if he & other execs have had to wait at luggage lotto to see how long it takes to get your bags

Usually when they are boarding from front and back, your row number determines which door you use. However, there invariably seems to be someone with mobility issues or overweight carry-on that uses the front to leverage the aerobridge because they cant or dont want to climb the stairs for the back. That is whey you have people going against the flow and everything slows down.

And no Im sure Alan never boards viathe back door, nor waits for his luggage (if he has any Im sure a pleb assistanct collects it).

I probably only average one flight a year … but my observation is that maybe half those who’re supposed to be using the rear stairs actually do, despite very clear signage.

This doesn’t actually bother me too much, ‘planes don’t move around enough that I care about the very slight extra movement back there, so I try to get seats up the back … I have zero status so window or aisle seats for the first 5 rows of economy are pretty much no-go, meaning I‘m automatically starting at about 10 rows from the front door. It usually means less fighting for luggage space as you get there before everyone who boards via the front, and it’s way easier to get a seat near the door for faster egress. Only downside is that in bad weather worse than light rain, for airports with proper aerobridges, they often don’t use the rear doors … relatively low risk, it doesn’t rain that much in Oz.

It’s good to hear Qantas are using the rear doors now, 10yrs ago we had a work project in Brisbane and I chose Virgin as much as possible ‘cos with Qantas they never used the rear doors.

Not me, but I know non-status people who view 30C like how we'd view 4C.

If you can't get anywhere near the front, being right up the back and near the door can save a lot of time.

If it's a longer flight and you're a drinker, it's also a quick trip to the galley for a top up.

All up I think it's a good thing, it is faster than aerobridge only.
