Hello,

Family and I are travelling LHR -> MEL in at the end of April - out on QF30 (departing 12.20), and back on QF9/QF31 (departing 1530 and 23.59).

Does anyone know approximately what times the meals will be presented.

We have a toddler and whilst I don't want to have a meltdown due to lack of food - I also don't want her to miss out on valuable sleep.

If anyone has any tips on getting a toddler to acclimatise to different timezones I'd be grateful.

Also, Qantas stipulate "Refreshment" - as a meal option. What does that consist of?

Thanks!

QF30 LHR-HKG
Lunch after take off
Breakfast about 2 hours before landing

QF30 HKG-MEL
Lunch after take off
Light dinner about 2 hours before landing

QF9 MEL-SIN
Dinner after take off
Refreshment (which is a vegetarian toasted sandwich) about 1 1/2 hours before landing

QF31
Supper after take off
Breakfast about 2 hours before landing

Can't help re traveling with a toddler - I've never travelled with children but I'm sure other members can help you out!

Safe travels

Good luck with travel. There have been a few threads discussing travel with todlers in the past.

Take lots of small packets of toys and food and activities. When the fidgets start, bring out another suprise pack.
Get them used to earphoes so they can watch IFO.
can you access QF lounges. If not try a shower in HongKong
Passenger Guide - Transfer / Transit - Shower Facilities - Hong Kong International Airport
And in Singapore airport use the pool. Let the toddlers get rid of all that energy on the ground.
Hope the holiday goes well

IME the menu cards they give out have a "flight plan" with rough timings for meals etc on it. So you'll have that as well.

Mrs Spruce and I found we could never really plan these things, go with the flow, it is never convenient.

Dont overplan and good luck!!!

Thanks again everyone! I do like to plan, but I guess you can't plan for every eventuality!

Take your own food/snacks that the toddler will eat.
Will they have their own seat? If so, ensure you request a child's meal. We did bne-sin-lhr & vv with our 18mth old last year. Qantas tried to suggest at one point that a baby meal would be better, but I stuck with the kids meal & was much better for her than jars of food. Depends on your child ....
The kids meal are special meals, so come out before the standard meals.
I remember on one flight keeping Miss 18mths occupied with placing sultanas from her tray into the cup on the tray ... :)
A number of meals she didn't eat or fell asleep during/before, but I'd raid the tray for bikkies, popper, etc for later. Certainly worked better than our points upgrade to J hnl-syd in June when there were no kids meals in J & tje FAs forgot to get her 2nd meal from whY. I was fine with her having the whY meals & the FAs not knowing for the first meal, but forgetting the toddler in a 15 or so seat cabin for the second meal??!! And that was the one she didn't want to eat from my plate ... Anyway.

Take spare clothes, you never know when they'll have a nappy explosion on you during turbulence, when they're sitting on your lap. :(
Get 'em loving travel as soon as possible. ;)
