My Amex card supposedly afforded me free Qantas Premium Wine club membership. I get bombarded with emails from Qantas Wine addressing me as a Premium wine club member. But when I check out they want $99 for the membership I already have! A series of back and forth emails and phone calls have occurred over the last three months. Everyone was very polite but nobody could fix the problem and all of them just disappear and do not reply to emails and cannot be found over the phone! What an absolute joke Qantas wine is! I only give it the time of day for the QFF bonus points, otherwise it is very over priced. Coupled with the non existent customer service I feel totally ripped off. The membership offered as part of my deal with AMEX has not been provided and it seems Qantas does not feel obliged to do so. The lack of accountability is almodt criminal. If rather be told that I cannot have the membership for whatever reason. But no. Instead they promise to sort it out then hide and do not return calls or emails!
I strongly urge anybody considering a credit card that offers any sort of arrangement with Qantas to reconsider their options. As it seems you have no recourse when Qantas does not stiffs you!

You do have recourse. The conduct you have described could amount to misleading or deceptive conduct under the Competition and Consumers Act 2010 (Cth) and under complementary state legislation. You could make a complaint to consumer affairs.

I will do that. After flying with Qantas for 25 years I expected better though. Thanks for your suggestion. I wonder how much more time and effort I'll need to devote to this to get a result?

You should have received an email with a code to use to register for free premium membership...

I actually received a letter with the code via Aust Post, saying that they tried to contact me by phone but were unsuccessful. That sounds like pretty good service to me.

I don't recall getting the premium wine membership having been complicated at all. I wasn't even particularly interested when I first got my card, but managed to sign up anyway, and since then have snagged some good deals from Qantas Wines
