Normally, refer offers are similar to what has been on the market recently. I think this card was 80k + 30k for referrer at one point a few years back (though with no annual fee waiver). Will have to keep an eye out over the next few weeks to see what offer comes next. The Point Hacks offer should be finished now and this card resumes normal play. $249 annual fee without the corresponding $249 credit from the Point Hacks offer and 30k QFF points as sign on bonus.
However, I do note an existing holder can refer a new card holder and receive 30k points with the referee receiving 40k points totalling 70k points, so quite similar. If only one could convince AMEX to remove (or lower) the pesky fee, then this card would go like hotcakes.
I may have to setup a refer post in the appropriate section,
What are some common bills that I can prepay to get to the spend quicker?
Is there any discounted gift card that I could buy using Amex? I've seen a couple of places only take visa/mc.
Buy Woolworths Gift Cards with a 5% discount from Cashrewards. They take AMEX with no surcharge. By a few $500 cards (costing $475) and you'll be on your way. Wish cards seem to be the best as can be used at multiple stores such as Woolworths, Big W, Dan Andrews, BWS and Caltex Servo's.
This may not be strictly by the rules and completely against AFF churning 'law', but if I have a card that I need to meet the spend on and know I won't get there - for instance if we have a couple of new cards at the same time and no larger purchases - I just get my partner to request money via PayPal and just cop the 2.6%. In this instance as the card is free, I'd be quite happy to pay $78 to get 75,000 points if I couldn't reach the minimum spend but still had the card. Also keep your eye out for PayPal: sometimes you can use the Amex that way.
Just to confirm, payments to government services are still eligible spends that count toward the spend requirement but just earn at reduced amounts?NSW and QLD rego renewals accept amex
They charge a fee so I can only presume so.Just to confirm, payments to government services are still eligible spends that count toward the spend requirement but just earn at reduced amounts?
The only non-eligible spends are basically cash advances and fees from what I can see.
