Qantas Points Club Discussion

No dice on my two JL flights last month, but BA was very nice
Are these 'pleasant surprises' actually a result of being a Points Club member? I wouldn't be surprised if a regular member discovered the same 'issue'.

Those pleasant surprises are common if you’re delayed/disrupted and rebooked mid trip.

Just to clarify, does PC or PCP show more than normal availability for reward flights?

I'm PC and 25K away from reaching PCP, which I should reach for the first time before my membership year resets at the end of September. I often have issues with reward flights as my wife is a school teacher and getting anything international during school holidays is always hard work.

No additional classic flight reward availability for either PC or PCP members.

First post... I qualified for PCP yesterday which will give me Qantas Club membership. I have this already though. Will they just add a year on top? Its still saying it expires Oct 2023
Thanks!
Very interested to hear how this plays out. Keep us informed!

As someone who is going to hit PC+ for the first time in a few months, was also wondering what the experiences of those PC+s who are already SG or better (in my case, WP and likely to hit LTG in the next 2 yrs, so zero to gain from QP freebies) has been in regard to the comp QP membership? Are extra transferable lounge passes issued in lieu, or does one basically get nothing?

Unfortunately and as alluded to earlier, if you’re already SG or WP you may not see the benefit of comp QP at all. Unless they extend your underlying paid QP membership - if you have one?

But you still get the 100 SC rollover (not to be sniffed at), additional vouchers and a few other useful things.

Figured as much re the comp QP. In my case I have a few 100 $ of QP membership frozen from when I first hit SG in 2012, but I am not holding out for a pro rata refund of the same when I get to LTG :(
As you say though, 100 SCs plus accom and QF wine vouchers are very nice, particularly when PC+ can be got mostly "organically" through business spend. Just a bummer that I can't transfer the free QP to MrsDrJ for the few times she flies without me...

Hopefully that changes in the future or at least get a choice of benefits (as hinted up thread as options under consideration).

Some new opportunities to buy some QFF points that count towards PC/PC+, that come with a free case or two of wine. Looks to be as good as around 56 points(*) per $1 "invested" at Qantas Wine.

(*) when including the Bonus Points, plus 3 points/$ spend as a PC/PC+ member, 10% discount as PC+ member, and 2 points/$ spent on the right QFF points earning credit card.

What's the general timeframe for the 100SC rollover? I made PCP in my last membership year, but so far have only had a 250SC rollover for Status Support as I'm starting my new year. Should I give it a few weeks to go through before I start messing around with customer support?

My new year date was 1 April and received my PCP 100 SC rollover on 6 April, so you should receive in the next few days.

For anyone running the numbers on PC+ (as I am at the moment - the last 100k is not easy!), I was pleasantly surprised to see the little milestone bonus you get at 250k seems to count towards the total.

60k to go with a few months up my sleeve, mainly for the 100scs of rollover. Not that interested in parking $12k in gift cards (nor the $700 cost of doing so) but will have my eye out for other opportunities. May have to test out Qantas insurance...

Mine arrived on the 8th of the month so I'd wait for at least a couple of weeks before chasing.

Do you have Amex points you could transfer to QF to make it up?

Just clicked over to PCP (Aug 31 end date).

Not sure if it really does much for me.

I assume a card churn is not an option.
When I chased PCP for MrsRich I found Woolworths Rewards helped a bit (particularly with the 3x points with monthly subscription) and they had a few bonuses with partners, like a first purchase bonus with PetCulture.
Also managed 3000 bonus points spending the $50 Qantas Wine voucher that came with PC on a single $59 bottle.
These aren't are enough for your scenario though, just some ideas.

Takes about a week.
My year ends in May. I made pcp early May and I noted just now my extra 100 sc were in. On top of the 500 from the earlier roll over thing.

So now 600 to start the next membership year.

79k to run for me between now and 31 Jul. Not going to happen…😔

Insurance alas not an option while I have good “grand fathered” health and car insurance. And CC churning no longer an option...

Very tough indeed!

I don't, though your comment has made me remember I have a few hotel points. The conversion rates are horrible, but might scrape an extra few K if needed.

Yes, scraping away at wwr bonus offers while trying not to let my average spend grow too much!

Have been keeping an eye on cards but I just can't bring myself to apply for some that have historically had such better options (eg the qf ultimate Amex at 60k now, down from over 120 historically).

If one of the mid teirs comes out with a no annual fee offer I'll be keen, eg anz has done their platinum with 70k and no annual fee.

Yeah, I'm in two minds about health, I'm on a grandfathered plan too but was planning a bit of an upheaval of extras anyway because we aren't using them. So might run those numbers, and plan to start churning there too...

Otherwise, yeah, too many gift cards or red planet surveys would be needed to cross those off!
