My view is the only benefit of any real worth is the SC earn on reward flights. And if that isn't helping you requalify for Gold/Plat/P1, the program is a gimmick.

It is very much a YMMV situation, but I think most posters on this thread are not particularly creative when they come to hotel bookings.

To give a simple example, I was looking for a hotel in Hobart for two nights over a weekend in the coming months.

A popular weekend, so half-decent hotels were going for $350+ per night and the good places were going for $500+ per night (including the Crowne Plaza).

Someone would use their $100 voucher to bring their $700-1000 hotel cost down to $600-900 and think they got a bargain.

I bought 74K IHG points for $AUD478 and got a room at the Crowne Plaza for $AUD240 per night. Even better, as I booked directly rather than through Qantas hotels, it will give me a chance to test run my complimentary Platinum status with the Chase IHG Premier Business card :).

You might be surprised. Many here are still status holders with airlines and hotels, they just also earn a shed load of QFF points each year to get PC/PC+ on top gratis.

Personally, I only use QF Hotels, Expedias, Booking.com etc when I can't book direct (ie there isn't one of my preferred hotels in the destination I'm going). Although, you can‘t use vouchers, we do as matter of course book AirBnBs through QF hotels for the extra QFFs points - I wonder how many peeps forget that?

Anyway, in my example earlier, Le Meridan, Noumea was the same price booking direct or via QF Hotels (and some other OTAs). Whilst I have a Marriott account, it doesn't get much of a workout, so not an issue getting more QF points and a discount than doing MR -> QFF.

If you are spending multiple hundreds of dollars a night for multiple nights in major chain hotels, then Qantas Hotels may not offer the best price and a voucher would quickly be lost in the ocean of dollars.

I tend to go for independent hotels, often small local ones, and aim to average at $100 a night - sometimes much less. A $100 voucher can be a free stay. No OTA or hotel promotion is going to be able to match that.

Having a look at a random 5 night stay at that resort, it is typically cheaper to purchase points on sale (with cash back) than it is to pay cash (even with the Qantas hotels voucher).

Not sure if this has been mentioned before but for those who do use QF Hotels be aware that since the points usually take six weeks from checkout to post but post with the date of checkin, if that gap straddles membership years the points don’t count towards your current PC/PC+ tally.

They should count to the previous year attaining/retaining PC/PC+ but I wouldn’t want to be trying to chase that up.

For those who don’t use QF Hotels. Business as usual.

Yes, it has been mentioned a few times. And yes, some have had to chase up for their PC+ renewal, but not everyone. Business as usual there, too! :)

If you already have 20k earned “In the air” for your current year then no.

I’d ticked over at the start of Aug but haven’t flown QF yet so 20k of my 30k counted towards PC. But future flights I have booked now won’t count.
