Qantas Points Club Discussion

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

My membership year rolled over recently. Based on last year I would be "Points Club" but at present it shows I need another 140k to qualify.

This leads me to wonder: does it reset each anniversary and do you have to requalify each year?

May have to retime my CC earn and burn strategy.

The answer to my question (from the FAQs):

You can enjoy your membership benefits from the moment you unlock Points Club, until the end of your next Membership Year. So, for example, if your Membership Year begins on 1 January 2020 and ends 31 December 2020, and you unlock Points Club or Points Club Plus in June 2020, you can enjoy your membership benefits until 31 December 2021. To enjoy your benefits for longer, just earn 150,000 or 350,000 points each Membership Year to retain Points Club or Points Club Plus. You'll be able to keep track of your Points Club membership........

But apparently not carried over from last year:(

I only need 24,519 points by 30 June to reach Points Club Plus. I have some bonus points landing soon, so should make Plus in a few weeks.

Website says I'll 'enjoy the benefits' until June 2021, so I'm guessing I'll have Plus membership for a whole year. Nice one, Qantas.

Where are people seeing how many points they have/need? I can't find it anywhere....

If you have reached the first tier of Points Club you will see it appear in your QFF Account Page like this:

If you have earned the 150,000 points to qualify for the first tier then you should see this. Clicking on 'See your progress' will take you into the Points Club section.

Looking at the mechanics of this program, it makes total sense they would have wanted to launch it right now and not a moment later. Encouraging more on the ground activity and points earn during these times.

Some of the significant benefits with a more tangible cost like providing status (from Classic Reward sets) or Qantas club memberships won't hit their bottom line anytime in the near future since no-one will be flying anyway.

Received SCs for an award flight taken back in Jan.

Suggests Qantas are awarding SCs retrospectively which is unexpected but welcome nonetheless.

I wonder how far people can push it!
I'm potentially up for a couple of hundred SC, who will be the first to ask for retropective credit? 😂

Curious, as we flew a couple of F awards last year. But probably too long ago.

It would require qualifying for points club before the flight was taken, so two people who booked flights on the same day and who are both in points club today may have two different outcomes depending on when they qualified for points club. I may be giving QF IT too much credit here but I suspect that is where the logic lies in awarding retrospective credit

The launch though gets lost in all the press about covid and shutdowns.

That said this is a pretty limited program. It's simply not accessible to your average worker given the $s involved.

I posted this over in the other thread that's just been started, but the logic behind the charts seems to be

Economy awards earn 70% of the cash fare earn rate
Premium economy awards earn 50% of the cash fare earn rate
Business awards earn 40% of the cash fare earn rate
First awards earn 26.6% of the cash fare earn rate
I would have preferred to not have a sliding scale, or to have a scale that had rounder numbers that formed a nicer pattern, but hey, that's just me.

I also somehow made it into Points Club and as my membership year just started and I flew in early March, I've already exhausted all I can earn from flights. I don't have a direct earn CC though, at least not a primary one, so I fear 2021 will see me drop from the advantageous point of earning off classic awards. Better enjoy it while I can.

I'll be interested to read how people can game it to earn the required points, such as does Qantas Wine qualify?

Understand importance of non flight related revenue for QF, (particularly when noones flying) but agree this is next to useless to people who don't play the CC shuffle game or cant divert all their personal/corporate spend through point earning CCs and rather spend their time actually flying. Just to confirm, do bonus points from CC sign ups contribute to points club or do they have to be earned through spend?
