Qantas Points Auction

650,000 points now! Wanted to do this... but is it worth as much as two round the world trips in business class? (Not that we can do that yet...)
You can fly around the world twice on the sim instead?

And now it is at 900K points you can now upgrade your two round the world trips in J to F. Last time I booked OW F rewards the retail value (if booked on the OW site) would have been approximately $45K, I know how I would rather use 900K points.

I think my favourite part on the auction page is the photo of the ‘787’ (that apparently has four engines) simulator at the bid section 🤣 I can often excuse media for showing the completely wrong aircraft for news stories etc, but you’d think QF could get a little detail like this correct…

I doubt they run edms by pilots.

Doing exactly what QFF wanted. Some happy people at Mascot.. er.. at home.. right now I dare say :D

Now 1.1 Million points. At this rate, won't be long until you could buy FOUR round the world business class seats!
1.2 million now.

The NZ getaway was the best-looking item to my eyes. I don't think I'll be partaking now that I see what a 1hr sim ride is going for.

Have you read the small print on the seats? No warranty, no repairs, don't operate them if anything falls into them. Requires wide access to the house. Don't move them once they're in.

Except if I own them, I'll do whatever I want...*
I noted the screens don't work, but they give you a manual. Hence I'd be looking to hack in a connection to my own entertainment system.

the only place I could fit them is the garage... wonder about the current requirement. Will it trip the breaker if I open the roller door and recline the seat at the same time

Don't operate them if something falls in? that just means don't operate them until you get it out. Same requirement as on the plane.

* I wont own them, so this isn't an issue

Jeez, 1.2 million points at the moment. That "values" the points at 0.25c each, based on the $3,000 cost of the experience in the Qantas website. That's more than 4 return trips to London in Business which would be "valued" at up to $40,000.

And at #3000 RRP that is about 400 points per dollar value. A toaster looks good. In fact for those points one could have 35 new toasters

The pace is slowing at 1,200,001 points. How many bids does the vendor get?

Cheers skip

I wonder if any customer/pax is actually bidding .... or is it that QF is showing higher numbers to show people that there is a genuine customer interest? Sort of saying that "OMG, there is so much demand, you better get your bids in if you don't want to miss one-on-one sim session with one of our awesome pilots"

I mean, I'm sure pax will be thinking twice before spending 1M+ points on a 1 hr sim lesson?

Wouldn't that be deceptive conduct?

Still on 1,200,001 points.

It's a one-hour flight simulator session for 2 people. That's a cost of 333 points per second. Who on earth would pay that?!

You can't have the roller door, that will have to go, that is not acceptable... see below
You will need to retro fit one side of your garage with a double "plane" type of plastic, or as close to that as you can, for the window, and then get the window shades, get something that look like an aircraft "privacy divider" for the aisle side, all the better if you did succeed in getting one of the drink carts that QF had going a while back, ... oh, not to forget, as close as you can, have something like those air vents they have on their aircrafts, oh, and by the way, you also need a recording of the pings that are sounded on planes for no reason, that I can make out... maybe a non current QF uniform worn by an mannequin...

1.2m points to say a business owner with a fair turnover tied into QBR and perhaps with CC spend also probably would not be a huge amount. Sounds like whoever biddedn 1,200,001 after 1,200,000 wants to do it. Good for them. if they're points rich and possibly concerned about either devaluation or opportunities going forward it may seem like good value.

Heck I have more than that in my account and I'm none of the above. I already turned down the flight sim option (I think at the time it was for a 737 rather than a 787 but eh) so it's not for me but there will be people out there who 1.2m points is not a big deal. Guaranteed.
