Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Champagne was a well appreciated Christmas gift, though interestingly I know a first-time P1 who received last years 150th Anniversary champers as their 2025 gift.

Fairly positive start to the year - had 2x F reward flights on QF1/2 opened up in March thanks to manual P1 request.

First flight of the year was SYD-CBR this morning that was delayed and then cancelled. System rebooked me several hours later and gate desk told me there was no earlier flight available, but Business lounge staff got me a standby seat on the next flight which made it a bit less annoying (assuming this one actually leaves…)

Nice, SYD-LHR RT or just SYD-SIN/SIN-LHR?

There have been a few reports of this in other P1 groups and the common thread seems to be attaining in the past year

SYD-LHR return.

I only qualified P1 for the first time this year also, I got the 2025 gift.

I got the 2025 gift.

Being the Les Clos Pompadour 2017 or the Cuvée Louise Parcelles 2005?

There were at least three different champagnes sent to Aus based P1 members in 2025.. QF also sent noise cancelling headphones to members in postcodes Qantas Wine cannot send to, and P1s based overseas got different gifts again.

Sorry, the Les Clos 2017. Didn't realise there were different ones sent out.

So in February 2025 the P1 briefing email from QF mentioned that:
Platinum One members now have access to our partner, British Airways, First Dining area at Johannesburg International Terminal, from 3pm - 10pm daily.

Well, yesterday I had to argue (politely) with two staff in the lounge and show the QF website and argue some more to get in. They were adamant it was only for First class passengers on QF. The excuse of the dining room being small made no sense considering the QF flight leaves more than 2 hours before the first BA flight.

I'll send feedback to Qantas, but if it's true that CL and P1 don't have access QF should update their website.

I have taken 4 flights in the last 5 months on Oneworld/QF partner airlines (already requalified for next year & wanted to broaden the flying experience) and 2 on QFi ex SYD. On the non QF flights, MH (MH flight#), LATAM (QF flight#), EK (EK flight#) and yesterday FJ(FJ flight#). No escort was offered for any of the non QF flights in the F lounge. I took myself to the P1 dining and showed my P1 card since the BP only shows Oneworld Emerald or on Emirates BP only QF WP.
Yesterday, I was not handed the P1 menu & had to ask for it (because I wasn't escorted?). I wanted the sashimi and was determined to have it.
Is the P1 dining only meant for P1s when flying QF?
I did end up being walked to the dining area by a front desk staff yesterday (she decided last minute to escort and caught up to me), gave me the reason she wanted to make sure I went to the right dining room. I replied that I'm heading for the P1 dining. When we arrived near, she said you can choose here or here (the P1 or adjacent dining). I chose the P1 and she responded 'good choice' and left. No escort to a table.

Whenever not escorted (usually by choice as I am not ready to eat) just showing my P1 card has been sufficient - never had to say what flight I was on, let alone the carrier.

Also was able to access the special menu items from the general comfortable seating area on my last visit - just showing the P1 card.

Good to know.
I know you're a sashimi fan as well. Did you find the sauce too salty this time? The ocean trout, salmon eggs and other condiments were not enough to cut back the saltiness for me.

Would take a lot for something to be too salty for me! But (somewhat by mistake) my first serving of it back in December came with the sauce on the side in a little jug. One can always ask for that if salt isn't to one's preference.

Have escorts been a thing for non-QF metal flights? I’ve only ever been offered an escort twice (both QF metal).

Not sure partner airlines can see or really would care if you’re P1 for the most part, with some failed attempts like the above BA first dining experience.

I should add, QF doesn’t care either in many of my experiences 😁

In the SYD lounge, or generally?

I've had 'escorts' for both on non-QF metal but very rare. And I suspect more from recognition / recollection from previous experience rather than as an entitlement as such. One I recall was in SIN when flying EK F and was well looked after by QF lounge hosts until handed over to an EK staff member at the gate.

Hosts/escorts have been somewhat sporadic for me even on QF metal, including when travelling F. Departing SIN last month - absolutely nothing; arriving in SYD full escort from Stewart through immigration, baggage (with assistance), customs and all the way to the domestic transfer bus.

I don't expect it - nice bonus when it happens.

True. I was 'gazumped' by an entitled WP who barged in outside the queue at Orange airport. I had patiently waited in line (checked in but needed a premium hand luggage tag) and was up next. I turned to him and told him where the line was. He said he'd checked in (showing me his WP BP).and needed to do bag drop. I replied so had I and could have flashed him my P1 BP but didn't want to play one up manship. The check in staff attended to him ahead of me. Apologies are so empty in those instances.
