Qantas Platinum One experiences?

To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?
 
Anyway again I think the gin is a great branding exercise and a fair attempt to make P1's feel special (or extra entitled?? lol). I'm not actually a gin guy (prefer vodka) but I definitely appreciate the collab with a well known quality producer in four pillars (a trusted premium local brand) and branded for P1. Who knows what the value is.. I saw elsewhere supposedly more than the Comtes (ie: >$300ish) but how would you know..

Without wishing to dis the gift - I'd love to have received it, but $90 retail might be closer to the mark, based on Four Pillars Qantas Centenary gin:


In Tas, basically every second garden shed you see houses a gin still (and often that's just what they are - large garden sheds ... very unromantic) and to bang out a limited 'boutique' brew would not require much effort. If you go to markets here in Tas, each distillery might have 10 different 'lines'. But as I said, not to downplay the gift - smashing idea!
 
Looks like the Special Collector’s edition QANTAS Magazine is a WP gift. I received that as a WP. The gin is understandably a P1 only gift.
 
Been a P1 for years and thought I had appropriately low expectations… but this trip has really taken the biscuit. QF9 MEL/LHR on Friday, bag missing, hours wasted at LHR - now appears it was offloaded in PER and has allegedly arrived LHR today. VIP team at a loss to explain why or if and when it will be delivered…. In fact minimal comms from Qantas…. Not feeling optimistic

Maybe time to get an AirTag. Very disappointing that they didn’t take status into account when deciding the bag to offload. They should never offload a P1 bag when they can offload a bag from a traveller with lower status.

Actually they should never offload a bag period, unless the pax is a no show or offloaded. Pax should not NEED air tags (though this is obviously a huge deal around the world in recent times).

For me, the issue is about the comms and efforts to resolve in a timely manner, not about whatever happened per se. If status is supposed to mean anything then surely it is about the care and effort taken to keep a "valued" passenger up to date. Even if there's nothing to say. It's often the service recovery that people remember than the problem itself imo. This service recovery, so far, seems poor.

Of course why any bag might have been unloaded in PER or otherwise lost is an issue for PER to figure out. You'd think through bags would be in their own container and be left on the aircraft, but who knows what happened. To me that is the secondary issue (unless an ongoing issue).

Hopefully it shows up soon.

Well, after about 10 calls to VIP team over two days it has finally arrived this evening!! 😀

I have no idea why they offloaded it - and apparently nor do they!! Maybe they thought I was stopping in PER and not going onto LHR - it’s very strange.

The various Qantas service divisions don’t seem well connected any more - I had to chaperone (via VIP) its return each step of the way - the effort to find it in PER, QF Duty manager IDing it in LHR on landing, clearing customs etc. I really think it would still be in Perth without my hassling them - they had no idea where it was for quite some time ….

This is only my second trip this year with checked in luggage rather than just hand luggage so a 50% loss rate 🤪…not particularly impressed - and If they can lose it off a simple flight like QF9 goodness knows what they are capable of with a more complex itinerary. So even though it shouldn’t be required I’m going to invest in some air tags….
 
I guess one possibility is that with unfavourable winds (assuming your flight was longer than normal?) they had too much luggage for the weight limit and had to offload some.

Does anyone better informed and connected know what the go is with the $200 voucher that people on FB seem to be posting about at the airport?

I went through Wednesday and was more focussed on flying ahead so forgot to enquire.
 
Been on 4 sectors over the last 2 weeks and received 3 * $200 QF vouchers. The lounge staff were all set and handed them over in the lounge. The only exception was this morning (Fri 23/12) where I took an earlier flight and the lounge staff rang me and asked if they could meet me at the gate to 'hand something to me'.. A very nice touch and unexpected touch from QF... Thank you.

Took a SYD-CBR flight on Xmas morning and was handed another $200 voucher at the lounge. Thank you QF... Not sure if these are P1 targeted or some other criteria is in play...

yes they are apparently for P1's flying during the festive period.

Some clearly have lucked out with this promo. Those of us not traveling (and some others who did not receive even when flying over the festive period) it probably seems a bit unfair. You'd think QF could have done this a bit smarter - for example apply electronically.

At any rate it's a nice gesture that is of some value indeed.

No P1 gin for me. Just the mag. Wife is WP and got nothing. I got the $200 voucher in SYD J lounge on Xmas eve. Smart move on the voucher… about to book a family US visit and the saving tips it back towards QF/AA rather than VA/DL. Instead of overly ridiculously priced it’s now just ridiculously priced. Would have liked the gin though…

Flew MEL-CBR this morning and no voucher at the MEL J lounge. Currently sitting in Canberra J lounge awaiting flight to CNS and no voucher offered here either.

As for the MEL-CBR flight, didn't even get an offer of muffin or juice/water let alone any "special" P1 treatment. Must've had my eyes shut at the exact moment the FA came past, and no follow up for the rest of the flight. As for rumoured opups to J on first flight after qualification that some others have mentioned, not a whimper on a nearly empty MEL-CBR sector today.

If there's one thing I was prepared for after hitting P1 and reading this thread, was to have low expectations and enjoy the inconsistency of the P1 experience. Haven't been let down so far...
