To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

anyone with plat mind seeing if a points redemption flight is avail from HKG - SYD on 11/1/2018 on premium economy or Business?
I really want to understand how much more redemption opportunities they open up compared to gold..

Not really the right thread, but for what it is worth, I see zero availability as a P1 for any class that day on the website.

Been doing more than normal SYD or MEL -> AKL or WLG sectors over the past 6 weeks -10 sectors all up in Y. 1 (EK metal), 3 (QF Mainline metal), 6 (QF Jetconnect metal). The EK A380 and QF A330 win hands down on space, service and luggage space. On each of the EK and QF mainline sectors the CSM came around and said hello and handed out the Express Arrivals card into MEL or SYD. On all of the QF Jetconnect sectors the CSM said hello and/or handed out the Express Arrivals cards to the QF Platinum passengers but didn't acknowledge any of the P1 passenger/s. On each of these sectors I was sitting in Row 4 C or D on the 738 with the CSM leaning over to say hi to the passengers in 4A or F. It's definitely not a big issue however I'm getting the feeling that QF Jetconnect Cabin Crew are either not up to speed on P1 or the UI on the QF IPAD hasn't improved.

so... they have not quite fixed that damn Manifest /Ipad issue??!! gah!

Most QF mainline I've bene on they've registered I'm P1 and either commented or made some effort with the "welcomne back" or "you travel a lot!" type stuff.. and on occasion the crews actually recogmise me (which is embarassing) and are really good given the personal connection

Flying EK sunday so see if they do anything (but F so...)

Agree with kermatu not really the right thread, what a WP/ WP1 can see online and what WP/WP1s can access can be somewhat different. A major benefit or WP is the ability to request seats. For the day you are looking at travelling there would appear to be the right fare buckets in Y+ and J that a WP could request for a seat to be released but that still depends on approval.

I had a nice A330 experience in J, MEL-SYD. It was full, and I was the last passenger to board. The flight attendant at the door motioned to the one in the galley. He came up to me and asked me what I'd like to drink and then brought it to me individually. 5 min later he brought out the usual tray for everyone else. They did the same throughout the flight. It was quite a simple gesture, but did make me feel a bit special. :)

I have received an invitation to a P1 event I am in town to attend, the 787 roadshow in ADL, an “exclusive preview” is how it is discribed.

I will have a slightly different “preview” earlier on the same day, the 787 is the operating aircraft I am travelling on to ADL :). Not known at the time of booking, when selecting seats realised it was not the standard 737.

Yet another great P1 experience.

I wanted to travel Brisbane to Auckland with my +1 and 2 x children. With points. 4 seats.

But me being me and liking to maximize flying experiences (especially the rare time I get to travel with the family), I was fairly picky, and wanted to:

(a) fly via SYD so they could all enjoy the Flounge
(b) get an early enough flight BNE-SYD so that there was time for (a)
(c) do it all in J
(d) fly back direct AKL-BNE
(e) make sure the SYD-AKL and AKL-BNE segments were in A330's, not those silly little 737's.

And all this was during the Easter holidays next year. :)

I phoned up for the first time I have ever asked for release of award seats. A new process for me. By the end of the phone call I was advised that the BNE-SYD-AKL flights I specified would be made available. As I called on a weekend (apparently "yield management" are weekday beasties) I was advised to call again after close of business Monday to check how it was all going.

I did so and was informed the return leg was also approved.

I am very happy :)

My first domestic Y flights this weekend as a P1 after a long run of J. No recogniton on ADLMEL but J wine served on the return home, with a blocked seat too, and the new glassware which is quite nice.

Forgive my lack of new-age technological acumen, but with the new AFF format it appears we have lost the ability to post/see member status levels? Or am I not doing something? It is not a snobbery thing (I was bronze not so long ago and maybe will be again), but i just found it was useful to see what a member was to assess how I could help. And that is especially so in this thread...

Apparently it disappeared a while back, not sure why it was removed.
I believe it was a function of the old website that was not supported by the new platform.

Have to love it when QF downgrade an A330 to a 737. Tuesdays (21/11) QF409 SYD-MEL sector was an example of this. Had originally selected 23B. It is a good Y seat on the QF A330's but not so good on the QF 737's. Was lucky enough to do web check in and picked up the aircraft downgrade at about t-23hrs so was able to get 5C. By the sounds of the heated words on boarding a CL/P1 passenger on the flight wasn't so lucky and was allocated his original 23D A330 seat on the 737.

I'm assuming it wouldn't be to difficult to pull together a use case that caters for an aircraft downgrade and allocates seating on the downgraded aircraft based on the seating requests from the original aircraft.

A little OT but does anyone know if the new design Qantas baggage tags (with the coloured Kangaroo) are available in P1? The new design looks so much nicer than the old one.
