To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

My Partner was Gold in her own right and half way through her year and has now dropped back to Bronze as I have dropped to WP. Would have thought she would have dropped back to Gold or at the least Silver.

Has she done the 4 squiggles ~ in her membership year?

That's an interesting one.

My husband got his old membership year back, and kept Platinum for the three months beyond mine (after I'd dropped back to Platinum myself), but then went straight to bronze.

The good lady is Star Gold so it makes for a simple and fair decision use my Platinum Status whilst we have it and use her Star Gold which she will have for some time now and not spend anywhere near as much money with QF as we have done over the years. This way we get the best of both worlds.

With my status match to Star gold I now have the benefit of lounge use when not travelling with Mrs Ansett and not having to go Via DXB to Europe any more and make better use of more competitive air fares to boot. :D

Had another P1 courtesy upgrade yesterday on MEL-ADL (thank you!!). What's interesting to me is that 24hours prior the flight was showing something like J2 C2 D0 I0 - not exactly empty, but my 4A assignment had disappeared and 1A was magically filled and my QF app said I was already checked in, so I had a bit of a hint. Still very nice surprise.

So that's 2 in the past 3-4 months (of 2 dom Y sectors in 2 class a/c booked). can't complain at a 100% strike rate.

I have another Y on NYE MEL-SYD, but it's J0 already so that won't happen, but hey that's totally fine!

I like the fact the gift came early - just in case someone in my family was thinking of splashing out for a top bottle for a Boxing Day birthday, now we don't need to.
.

You are perhaps lucky. Nothing has arrived here in Perth for the two P1's in this office.

oh yeah no bottles for me. note to QF: the dom upgrade was nice, but LGB would be far far nicer :D

Just had my last SST phone conversation with Peta...as usual professional, courteous and all fixed...
In the last 3 years I have always received impeccable service.....Just returned to WP so this is certainly one benefit I will miss.....

Sorry to hear of the drop in status. Just out of interest, and if you don't mind the query, did you qualify for WP or soft land there?

Soft landing....as all my travel for last 12 months have been on award points.....Have experienced Etihad, SQ and QF all in F...but I'm planning 4 squiggles on QF and some UP on AA during this year which hopefully will retain WP. I have LTG so we'll see how the year pans out.....1st world problem !!!!

Thanks. I benefitted from a soft landing a couple of years ago when I dropped from P1. While I have several months to go, I'm not sure I'll hit 1200 this time as I have already been flying on other carriers (some OW, but also SQ and EY, with TG to come). If I'm sure of the soft landing I won't chase even if close.

It would take a major change of policy for you to miss out:

Qantas sweetens Platinum One frequent flyer status - Australian Business Traveller

The associated Platinum One member won’t see their own status retained, however, but will see the usual ‘soft landing’ to Platinum status.

Red Roo also stated it explicitly here once:

Looks like some P1s got Krug vintage 2000 as Xmas gift. I wonder if it means they are higher tier P1s or QF simply run out of LGD.

Service recovery because of all the complaints QF read about since some P1's got gifts & some didn't (4 years of P1 & 2 xmas gifts for me) Or yeah simply ran out of LGD

P1 here since it started, got the weird books last year and yesterday a bottle of Krug 2000 arrived. Appears to me they wanted to make up for last year's gift and have done well. Glad I didn't get the Grand Dame as this is much better!

Definately get looked after as P1 from free upgrades to award seats being made available if I make the call.

quite happy with Qantas as I know what to expect and they know what I want! (fly twice per year US, three times a year to Europe - two of those to London and the 3rd I get QF ticket on Emirates business up and then QF2 home and have always been moved to Emirates First for outbound leg as well as numberous return to Asia, NZ and once per year to South America and South Africa).

Love this blog for information more than anything as I can rarely upgrade with points as first only on 380s

What's the SC earn of the P1's who are getting Christmas presents? I've been P1 since it started and vaguely remember getting some wine the first year, certainly nothing this year or last. My last full membership year I racked up about 5400 SC, whilst this calendar year I'm at about 5000. Curious to see where the bar is set by Qantas.

4220,4250, 3635 & 3600 last 4 years

Maybe you have a big present coming

P1 since the start and over 5000 SC's every year until last when I only racked up 3660, but nothing in the post so far.
