To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Thanks to the P1 team for an 'Enjoy your flight from the P1 Team' upgrade across from Perth the other night!! Made my day after enduring the route in a 737 on the other direction

Not strictly P1 experience, but I think had I been a Gold or Silver it may not have occured

Sat morning at SYD. I arrived on SQ from SIN about 45 minutes early and sped through immigration and customs. As a result I was at the QF Dom transfer desk around 0730 and I had a 1000 QF flight (booked in I class on a sale fare). Now I had just looked up ExpertFlyer for earlier flights and noted 1J seat showing on the 0900 but it was a 737 (I just came off Suites.. I'm not going in a 73! lol) but the 0930 was a Business Suite 332 (the 1000 was a old config 332). However EF was showing J0 C0 D0 I0 and just about all of Y 0's. I thought well no chance, and I was debating if I should take that 0900 anyway to get home an hour early.

Anyway the agent said to me proactively (after I handed over my P1 card as my check-in ID) "Do you still want the 1000?" I said "Well I saw the 0900 has a seat but I don't really want the 737 but the 0930 looks full so i guess there's no chance there" (pause) "I have a seat on the 0930. I can give you that" and voila I had 1F on the 0930. Bemused I then checked EF, and it still showed all 0's, and I looked at the seat map, and saw 2K unallocated, so I was able to move to that seat (my fave in the business suites).

I also noted that QF had issued my booking as a brand new ticket for some reason (still in I class, which was odd) which was really strange.

So anyway on an "full" flight a seat was found, potentially 2, and a ticket re-issued. Again not sure if I class this as a P1 benefit, but really made me happy :)

Great outcome for you...

I always keep keep in mind that, as accurate as EF may be in a majority of the cases, it's 'indicative' and not 'definitive' in its representation of fare bucket availability. IME, less so for QF, and more so VA, though your experience demonstrates it applies just as much for QF.

Recently I tried to get on an earlier SYD-MEL flight which had EF showing J1 C0 D0 I0. Got to check in and was told that one and all flights in the following hour were full (the others were J0). Tried again at the lounge and the same response was given, with me refreshing EF right before going to the lounge, which still showed J1.

Not too long ago I did the same and it was J3 (forgot the C/D/I buckets). I asked to be moved to that particular flight at check in and was told "sure, there are 3 seats available on that flight". Both QF. YMMV

A flight could show J9 and be full. EF only shows seats available for sale in each class. It won't show the overbooking numbers which are independent.

Absolutely true, but one would imagine if there are 0 seats open to sell per EF that the thing is full/way oversold (unlikely in J on dom)-that close to departure (within a couple of hours or less) upgrades allocated too. Perhaps QF keep a couple hidden away for late walk ups on trunk routes? (though on a Saturday morning non peak seems a bit unusual)

anyway I was happy :)

Today I received a lovely Christmas gift for my loyalty. A 2004 Veuve Clicquot Grand Dame Champagne.

While I'm not the biggest champagne drinker - and would have been happy with books - this will go down very nicely over Christmas or birthday festivities later this month. Very much appreciated. Thank you QF.

Received the same from QF today :)

& QF have already given me the books previously :)

So did I!!!

And I (books last year, 2004 Veuve Clicquot today). Thank you Qantas and a special thank you to the P1 Special Service Team. Greatly appreciated. :D

I like the fact the gift came early - just in case someone in my family was thinking of splashing out for a top bottle for a Boxing Day birthday, now we don't need to.

Sadly I missed out on the books. The set sounds/looks really nice.

Nothing yesterday or this morning from QF before I left for work (but I did get the books last year) so I kind of expect something now (isn't that bad?)

irony is that yesterday I actually enjoyed a LGD that I purchased duty free in AKL (yes, I spent $$$) so it would be hilarious if they sent one (and all my hints during the year possibly paying off - certainly for some ohers!)

s anyway we'll see if I receive any love. maybe I'll get home to a note from the post office and have to wait all weekend - still it would be nice! :)

Nothing yet in WA, but I guess (hope) that's freight. I've been fortunate to enjoy the GD 2004 on a couple of trips last year and am looking forward to a bonus bottle to crack open over the Christmas hols

Hopefully it's on the way! Mine arrived in kalgoorlie Yesterday :)

Just as a data point: husband had Partner Platinum and bounced back to Bronze once I lost P1. So no soft landing even with the four squiggles.

Did you drop to WP though? Makes sense that the partner drops back to their earned level.

I agree that it "makes sense", in a sense, but I'd seen a soft fall from Partner Gold (of the 2,400 SCs variety) to Silver in the past (actually even softer, since there was an extra year of Gold in the middle).

So I thought it was at least worth mentioning. Makes the complimentary WP a bit different to standard WP.

Yes - agree it is interesting and certainly worth noting. I like the benefit (though not applicable in my P1 time) so will be interesting to see any other experiences.

Cheers.

My Partner was Gold in her own right and half way through her year and has now dropped back to Bronze as I have dropped to WP. Would have thought she would have dropped back to Gold or at the least Silver.
