To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

Non - yesterday on flight QF 476
Not a hot towel in sight and the pretzels outnumber the cashews at about 1:1000 ratio (sic). My little pre dinner packet had two at the bottom of the bag. The little packet had written Cashews and pretzels. As if cashews were the main ingredient. However this is not the case!!!

The cashew only packets have gone the way of the dodo and soon it seems the cashews in the pretzel and cashews packets

You got two cashews so the plural form of the word is still valid. Once they 'enhance' the offering to one cashew per serving they will need to change the name on the pack to 'Cashew and Pretzel Snack'.

Ha ha! Love it. I've also been watching this snack evolution:

Warmed cashews, served in a ceramic ramekin; to
Cashews, served in a vessel of some description; to
Packet of Cashews; to
Cashews & Pretzels; to
Cashew & Pretzels; to [soon]
Cashew-flavored pretzels; to
Pretzels; to
'Buy our pretzels'; to
'Bring your own damned pretzels, with cashews if you wish'.

Cheers.

I believe we also got a packet of 'cashews and almonds' at some stage (or was that another airline?). They were good until 'enhanced'.

Hot towel anyone ?

The cheese selection on the menu came with an asterisk on it* much like this one*

* you can request / ask for / have this meal anytime in the flight.

* so I did ask for a cheese selection about 20min before TOD and .......

* sorry sir we don't have any

Hot towel anyone?

This is similar to my experience with the QFi J 'anytime' small plates. If J is full, there is basically nothing left after the meal service and therefore there is nothing to have 'later' in the flight. If I see J is full, I get the CSM to put something away for me. This has saved me on numerous occasions (particularly on QF11 I have found).

2 op-ups this week, first at the gate (SYD-BNE) and second at J lounge (BNE-MEL).
While there is an improvement, the ratio in last 6 months is ~8% in domestic op-ups, compared to 5% in the first 6 months of last year, it's still significantly lower then what our American cousins get with their airlines.
I said many times that one of the major flaws with the P1 programme is that members don't get more upgrades then WPs or even SGs. Now, more then ever, QF need to work extra hard to keep elite members from moving on to other FF programmes.

Two tickets to Australian Ballet performance of Cinderella.

Gotta say, for me at least, QF seems to be trying hard to keep me.

When it rains, it pours.

Today I was booked on the 10am BNE-MEL flight, but got to the airport early, on a flexi whY fare, so asked at the counter for an earlier flight, sadly every MEL flight this morning is oversold, but she said if I used some points in a J upgrade I could get on.

Sure why not, she scurried off to the manager and both came back and said as the flight was oversold we moved you over and it upgraded automatically, here is 1A. No need for points deduction.

Now if that's not awesome I'll eat my luggage.

So from no upgrades on 100 QF flights as P1 to now 3 out of the last 5 I'm a very happy passenger.

As to the QF staff at BNE check-in, you cats are the coolest in town, even though a couple of hours earlier flight doesn't seem like much, when you are hardly home and get any quality time with your wife and kids every minute counts. To think outside the square and look for a solution proactively sets you apart, it's very easy for the old "computer says no"

Good to read about your experience ReLoad.
I also got lucky at BNE lately after a long period with no upgrades there.

I saw this in MEL last year courtesy of the P1 team. Lovely night out with mum.

Hope you enjoy the show.

Have been QF P1 since March and have since received 2 'random' Y to J upgrades on flights that were definitely not oversold. One AKL-MEL and the other SYD-MEL. Have found the P1 SST to be very good at short notice; once when stuck in traffic and getting them to move flights for me and a NB colleague on a Friday afternoon, the other in arranging a connecting transit to an earlier flight with only 25 mins notice instead of having to wait around another two hours.

Biggest gripe is the lack of blocking of 4B or 4E - seats which seem to be opened up to anyone when there are still dozens of free seats (including window and aisle seats) further back. I know it's a little petty, but a 'stronger/darker' P1 shadow would make me 100% satisfied with P1 status.

+1. Now that priority boarding seems more reliable, a passenger in 4B or 4E when the middle seats are empty in most of the rows behind is my most consistent gripe

The key is having another P1 sitting on the other side, then the middle seat should be locked if plane is not full.
Sometimes WP is enough but anything below that means open middle seat.

doesn't work.
non-status and bronze can select 4B/4E by asking or from check in kiosk.

I've seen this a million times and as recently as couple weeks ago.

Anyone can ask, it's up to the agents if they want to unblock the seats or not.
From my experience, 4B/E is usually blocked when P1 + P1/WP are seating on both ends.

Not my experience, in fact I have asked QF if there is a note in my profile that requires the check in agent to find someone to sit next to me.

Not such a problem these days though I have given up on QF domestically, the lack of PB and the permanent seat mate means I fly VA...at least PB works and I get an empty seat next to me in row three more often than not.

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

To avoid a middle seat partner, according to the P1 team, is to advise them 3 days before the flight and they will Block the seat so no one can select it unless the flight is completely full

That's a good advise but I'll feel like a DYKWIA calling them 3-4 times a week :p

That's the beauty of it Boomy, letting them know could be by phone or email. My choice would be email :)

As the P1 apologies and excuses team are supposed to 'monitor' my travel and as they know I (and every other P1) want a shadow, why should we have to do anything..... It should be automatic. I will contact them if I want a seat mate.
