QANTAS has really been put into a tough position now. I hope both sides can work something out ASAP!!

Qantas pilots join engineers in call for first strike since 1966 | The Australian

QANTAS pilots say they agonised for weeks before applying today to take their first industrial action since 1966, as they move toward a disruptive showdown with management.
The Australian and International Pilots Association officials applied to Fair Work Australia this morning for permission to ballot members on action tipped to include a work-to-rule campaign and stop work meetings of up to two days.
"It is with sadness that we have reached this point today," AIPA president Barry jackson said.
"We do so now because we are concerned not only for the future of Qantas pilots, but for the future of Qantas itself."
Qantas said it was extremely disappointed the unions were taking actions that would significantly disrupt its customers.

I fully support the QF pilots on this one.

At the risk of playing the man and not the ball, Joyce is a joke of a CEO who is out of his depth and needs to go. The mantra of cut cut cut is not how to run a premium airline like QF!

The bigger concern is the orange cancer J* who are offering new PPT contracts which wouldn't feed the family!

Pilots deserve to be paid a reasonable wage for the level of responsibility and training they boast! I'm also happy to pay a slight premium knowing there's a grey-hair in the driver's seat vs a cadet with 200hrs on the deck!

That's the irish for you. Willie Wash did the same at BA so they moved him off to IAG and promoted someone who's more customer focused.

Just in terms of Cadets - how do we get experienced pilots if we dont start with people who can't fly, train them, give them experience and the age them? I dont know whether it is semantics about the driving seat but surely it must be good for QF to be the ones training people from scratch?

Maybe that's why JohnK saw a business class cabin full of crew... they were ageing them?

Qantas do have a program, from memory it is done with Swinburne and also Oxford training (at least at Moorabbin). However the issue is getting experience up. or rather how to. Should they spend 1000+ flying hours doing milk runs up in northern australia in a variety of aircraft, building their experience up, or jump straight into a A320 (JQ) after barely getting a CPL, as inferred by the JQ cadet scheme?

Wouldn't making them sit in Jetstar economy be the best way to age them?

Definitely the fastest way:!:

I just hope we won't have to much trouble in June...

3 - 4 weeks for a ballot to be completed then min 3 days notice after that.

Nothing of issue can really happen until 17th June, more likely a week later than that.

Which puts me in the danger zone with a 21JUN flight to LHR and a 5JUL return :(

We'll see, nothing I can do to change it anyways

I have a JASA on 22 Jun in the morning. I ain't liking it :(

Too bad DJ aren't flying their A330s between BNE and SYD (or at least new J), then I'd be tempted to change to them, ask QF for original routing credit and send them the bill.

On this topic, QF Media have just announced that CEO Alan Joyce will be interviewed tonight on ABC's 7:30 report in respect of industrial issues involving the pilots.

Might be worth a watch for those who are interested

Only interest would be to draw up a bingo card now and see if you can get bingo from what Joyce is going to say.

Chances are, I think we'll have an oversupply of winners. (In fact, that applies to almost any industrial action interview).
