Qantas passengers stranded for 26 hours | Travel News | News.com.au

FRUSTRATED passengers have been stranded in Sydney for more than 26 hours following problems with two Qantas planes.

Around 120 passengers on flight QF31 experienced the lengthy delay on the Sydney-Singapore-London service.

The flight was originally delayed for over five hours due to a hydraulics issue, a Qantas spokesperson said.

A replacement aircraft also experienced technical problems, forcing it to be returned to the terminal.

In those 26 hours there could have been a goodly number of empty seats making their way SYD-LHR.

Wouldn't it have been nice if those 120 passengers could have been accommodated on the spare seats on other flights and airlines.

I'd rather be delayed then not arrive at all!!

Indeed, I'd rather be delayed a week than get on a plane with a problem. You only have to stand at the terminal window and stare out at a plane with wheels down, engine cover open and flaps out to see how complex it is. No need to rush the man who is charged with fixing and signing it off as ok to go.

QF would have moved urgent cases to other flights had there been seats available which probably explains the resulting load being only 120 PAX that had 26 hour delays, there are not a lot of options at 6PM Sunday to move flights other than to go via Melbourne! What would you have taken, a 11PM ex Sydney departure on an A380 or a 747 at midnight ex Mel, without the benefit of hindsight a guess most would have taken the replacement A380 option? I am sure the BA and QF options for the next day were taken up when offered, those that remained probably had a very comfy flight !

I guess the Red-E's with no status sorted out last, as you would expect.
