The federal police have confirmed a Qantas passenger had to disembark a flight when found with a rat on-board.

A caller told the 3AW Breakfast Rumour File that a man boarded the flight with the rat down his pants.

Wonder what flight they were trying to board? Would have hated to sit next to the person and rat.

As we prepare for takeoff, please stow all personal belongings and rats in the overhead locker or in the seat pocket in front of you.

Perhaps he got booked QF flight instead of Jetrats (note the correct spelling of QF's off spring)

In defence of pet rats.. (yes, I had 2 many years ago) .. A white laboratory rat would be no worse to have on board than a cat or dog... possibly better as I doubt the allergy problem exists!

Should have had it declared an emotional support rat!

It was QF9 last Sunday. Had already travelled with it from SYD to MEL.
Was only stopped due to a random full body X-ray rather than just walking through. I had to wonder what would happen
when the guy fell asleep and it got restless. Another no news.com full page story.

Again, assuming it was a laboratory bred female animal (GOD I hope it was!!!!) as long as they are fed/watered adequately they are very quiet and meek.... not hugely affectionate but they acclimate to regular handling well... (IME of course)

As a young boy I used to carry them about with me... in the pockets of one of those dreadful old plasticky quilted parkas (remember those?). I recall wandering "up the street" (going to the shops) once, and having a young woman spot one of the rats (Name of Pavlova...) peeking out from the pocket..... she cooed a bit and then commented that it "was a cute guinea pig"..

My response? To haul her out and say " 'snot a guinea pig, she's a RAT!" (You can just picture a young boy doing that, right?;))

Strange... all of a sudden the young woman seemed to think it wasn't so cute any more....

She (the rat that is) would have had a body a good 10-12" long.. and with a very long (pink) tail... NOT a small "small animal"!

Saw a sign in shop window the other day at Stuarts Point NSW. Snake food was the headline & then had a list & prices for various sizes & descriptions

There are no full body X-rays in Australia.[/QUOTE]

Ok then lets call it another name, body scanner. Based on the Melbourne Airport website they have been introduced.
The main concern and to why I posted my comment was the fact the rat had already flown and the person was attempting
to fly another sector with it.

I was not expecting my comments to be dissected so apologies for the wrong name.

Yesterday in the Bali airport there was a huge rat running between two airport restaurants.

There is a body scanner at Adelaide International as my hubby had to go through it.

Any chance of opting out?

Nope. They then grabbed a lady of Indian descent who was on her own (adult that is) and travelling with 3 young kids. One a baby. A security person held the baby.

At the same time a woman had a carry one bag full of various liquids and none of which was in a bag. We could see toothpastes, mouthwash, medicines, hand moisturisers, cough syrups, all normal size. It was like all the traveller warnings had washed right over her. We last saw her being searched by security but there was no way she was giving up her liquids.

I was under the impression that you can refuse the full body scanner and ask for pat down. When did this change?
