Hello,

I'm looking at two flights, one between Sydney and Bangkok and then Singapore and Sydney... I can flight either Qantas or British Airways, which do people think are better?

The Singapore to Sydney leg have the same flight times but BA run 20 mins earlier on the Sydney to Bangkok flight.

Thanks.

which class / which plane / day or night flight?

If A380 - probably Qantas across the Board.

If you want to sleep in J - BA sleeper is flat, whereas Qantas skybed I in the 747 is not.

Welcome to AFF!

You could have asked both questions in the same thread, as they are presumably related to the same thing.

In regards to how many points you’d earn on BA, you’d have to find out what fare class the ticket you intend on purchasing books into, and then take a look at this table under BA. I think you’d earn 100% of actual miles flown, so essentially the same as Qantas on that route.

Now, choosing who to go with, the timing isn’t much different and neither is the price presumably, so it might all come down to what you think of the competing seats, food and drink, and optionally service.

It’s been a while since I’ve flown BA, so I’ll leave someone else to extoll BA’s advantages/disadvantages.

One question, will this flight be in economy?

Thanks for the speedy reply...

The flight leaves Sydney around 4:30pm in Sydney and arrives in Singapore at about 11ish - BA is 20 mins earlier.

Both seats are economy, I think BA calls it 'world traveler' and both planes are 747...

Sorry I made a mistake, I meant to say leaves Sydney around 4:30pmish and arrives in Bangkok (not Singapore) around 11pmish...

Hopefully this clears it up

Sydney to Bangkok
Finding my own way to Singapore
Singapore to Sydney

Thanks.

So to clarify, on one of those flights you have the option to fly either QF or BA with the only difference being departure time?

I guess the useful points have been explained above. As both are 747 it just comes down to service and what the product is like.

I can actually fly both, both ways... They pretty much the same price, like $2 cheap for BA from Singapore. I am using my ff points for the Bangkok flight, so same amount of points.

What I am trying to get at is, most people say they'd prefer qantas but is it worth going BA to get in 20 mins earlier, meaning getting to the hotel/bed earlier?

If you have the option of both, and haven’t flown BA before, I’d give them a go in one direction to find out if they suit you more or not.

Having flown BA both internationally and domestically, IMHO (and considering that there is no price differential), I prefer to fly the red roo over BA anytime, especially if an A380 flight is available.

It's been a couple of years since i've flown BA Economy, but I would NEVER fly them again EVER!

Even when Jetstar's service was at their lowest when they first began operations (and I think it's far better now than when they first commenced service), they will still better than BA economy.

I prefer not to fly economy but i'd definitely fly QF over BA anyday.

Yep... BA if the price and flight times are right. QF for pretty much all other circumstances.

Getting the BA staffers ex-SYD who are on their way back to London after a 7 day holiday (with bits of work thrown in too), doesn't mean the best service. BA's catering has been declining much faster than Qantas catering, and I believe their planes are getting pretty tatty in Economy now.

Mal - I mentioned earlier that I have flown BA both domestically in the UK/Europe and also internationally - they were tatty then, and I don't think they'd have gotten anything but worse as they don't have any money for new planes, refits, etc.

The worse example from own experience was when we flew LHR to JFK - my partners seat in J was broken - couldn't be adjust in any direction. The staff couldn't fix it. He was willing to even sit in Y - but no, they couldn't, wouldn't do anything. (This compares to my own flight over to the UK when my seat was changed because the table wasn't working properly - still useable, but the QAN staff didn't want anything to happen or be discomforted. What a difference.

only based on my last trip - Qantas. But that's very subjective and I could've just been unlucky with the BA plane I had. Flew out of Bangkok and the air con didn't seem to be that effective. Qantas have been getting some flack lately but I'd still not hesitate in choosing them over BA - just my personal opinion.

I agree with you .

I usually try to fly BA on the way to LHR and QF back. Little shreks fly economy and prefer BA IFE and QF food. Cabin comfort ( or discomfort) is similar in both. I usually find FA's are of a similar standard.
I also much prefer the BKK airport, shops are great.
