Has anyone heard any news on Qantas Online Checkin?

There was something that came with my FF paper statement.

Does anyone know when it will become operational?

Apparently you can check in online and print out your boarding pass.

Chucksta

Noticed flying out of CBR on Thursday afternoon, they were using a new boarding pass scanner, that had a magnetic bp scanner at the bottom and sitting on the top if it was something that looked like a barcode reader. So it's on its way.

Same BP scanners are in ADL, and I had similar thoughts to you at the time about how convenient it could be for Online checkin...

Officially, the introduction is very soon. I recall some date in July, but to be honest can't remember where I saw that. Think it was a Qantas Press release.

If the Qantas online check-in works as good as the Virgin online check-in then it should be great when it gets up and running. I've only used the DJ online check in once, but it was very easy when you get to the terminal with carry on, through security and use the boarding pass you printed out from home. You can check in 24hrs prior to flight, select you seat etc and is easy to use.

Don't know how other airlines do it but the only way I can see this working with QF is if the seating allocation is still done by the computer and people can then go online to print boarding pass and play musical seats with any leftover seats.

I don't think we want to get in situation where it is first in first served on internet and irregular flyers end up with better seats that regular FF's.

I guess that is exactly what will happen; But it's no different from getting a BP for your same day return flight in the morning using QuickCheck. I can see it now; alarm goes off, log in and allocate seats, scrub , breakfast and off to Aerodrome...

(PS Saw those new readers in ADL yesterday as well.... would not read my BP  )

With SQ olci gives the best of both worlds. Premium and elite pax get to pre-select seats at booking. And at time of OLCI you can change your selection if see something better.

Downside, once olci becomes more widely used, is that for long trips used to be one of the first to check in (due to long connecting flights) but no longer the case.

I would have thought QF's online checkin will be similar to BA's. I have used BA's version extensively over the past 6 mths and it pre-allocates seating in zones of the aircraft based on your status. For example as a OW saphire/emerald I have yet to be pre-alloc seats past the wing (traveling Y on intra-EUR flights). Being able to change seat after pre-alloc is a bonus.

I'm a big fan of anything that removes tedious queing, stress and bother of getting a boarding pass (esp. when no luggage to checkin).
