The last time someone took a news article at face value we saw Oscar Piastri announce he was not signed to Alpine for the 2023 Formula One season.
I imagine having to personally observe every historical event must get tiring.

I dare say if they wanted to do it, they probably wouldn't do something stupid like saying publicly that they weren't planning on it, but I guess there has to be something to keep the speculation rolling on ad nauseum.

Except he only speaks for one part of the airline, and not even the side that handles the FF program.
Funny you should say that. When I originally read the headline, I thought to myself "...that's all well and good for Domestic, but will the same hold true for International?"

This may surprise people, but executives other than the CEO can and do speak on behalf of organisations that they sit on the executive steering committees of.

I would suspect that the reason he delivered the message was because he was the executive who was there and was asked the question. But yes sure, I bet CEO international will rappel from the ceiling and usurp his power, only to be blindsided by a surprise devaluation to the back of the head by CEO Loyalty, before they are all carried out of the ring by People and Culture.

Too late to codeshare with QR!

But seriously, QF ops have been joined at the hip for Dom and Int for ages. Like almost as long as Cher.

For what it's worth, it's also my understanding that Qantas isn't planning to switch to a purely revenue-based program in the short to medium term.

I suspect we will see some changes to the way status/status credits are earned in the near future, but I think this will be more relating to adding new ways to earn SC from financial products.

It isn't until it is.

That said per the other discussions, QFs system is already highly aligned to their interests with the various tables, and the majority of 'hacks' enhanced away.

They will do whatever the balance sheet requires at any point in time. At the moment, no issues, in the future, who the heck knows. If they need to get creative to pull in more revenue or limit rewards, then they will.

Wink wink, nudge nudge. Embargoes are a bit of a grey area.

I don’t have specific inside info on exactly what’s planned and could be wrong. That’s just my read on the situation. :)

Didn’t Qantas flag earlier this year that there would be additional changes to the program announced in late 2025?

Yes.

I'm not saying they will, but they could easily launch a clone of new BA Club and the statement he made would still be 100% valid.

He has responded to a question about making the scheme more about buying and less about flying.. With BA's changes, it is still primarily about flying, albeit they are rewarding those who are spending more money on flying. It is not the only metric though as there are cabin bonuses.

I do think one thing that seems to be ruled out by the statement is that they have no intention of moving to model like AA where it is possible to earn status on non airline expenditure alone without setting foot on a plane.

They already have PC/PC+ for big spenders on the ground.
