QANTAS has named Alan Joyce, the head of its Jetstar offshoot, as chief executive of the airline group.
Mr Joyce becomes chief executive designate from today and will take over when outgoing chief Geoff Dixon steps down after the company's annual general meeting in November.
Qantas chairman Leigh Clifford said Mr Joyce was an outstanding executive with wide experience in all facets of the airline industry.

Hmmm. I wonder what that portends for service levels.:(

I am surprised, almost shocked, at the appointment of Alan Joyce, the head of JQ, as the next CEO of Qantas? Based on the limited discussion I would guess most people would not care or feel he is a good choice to replace Geoff Dixon....

What worries me is the potential for QF to scale back further domestic services and run JQ on routes other than their premium SYD-MEL / SYD-PER etc

God help us if they do.

If they do, I think it will start a cycle. There are to many people out there that just wont do LCC. Dj has picked up on that. I'd like Qantas to get overly coughy and create room for a new full service domestic carrier. Shake it up a bit, then watch Qantas try and claw back market share. I the end it would make Qantas a better airline.
