Been playing around with some flights to KL.
Using the Multi-City rather than return for on out August/ back September routing

Plugging SYD-KUL-SYD comes up with the usual engine.

However plugging MEL-KUL-SYD comes up with a fixed price on mostly QF flights (via SIN and then QF codeshares) but with a new "Alternative Flights" button
This offered up the QF codeshare on the direct EK flight for negative $s (ie cheaper flight)... as well as both QF and MH (indeed quite a lot of MH codeshares)

Intriguing! You actually save money on the KUL-SYD leg by booking more flights (selecting some of the three sector KUL-SIN-MEL-SYD routings), and you earn more Status credits as all the flights are QF-coded.

QF codeshare on MH? That is interesting!

ETA. ok I had to take a look and the above statement about QF codeshare on MH is not correct.
The QF codeshare flights are either EK direct services to KUL and SIN, or QF codeshare on Jetstar (hence the cheaper pricing)

Not what I was getting excited about..

Sorry meant mh direct, rather than QF codeshare on JQ.

I don't mind the format. Gives a simple choice for most but provides more options for those looking for more options

Well, the QF codeshare on JQ is just the short 40-minute sector between KUL and SIN so not too bad...

That Alternative Flights button has been there a long time.

Hope you don't encounter the bug where changing from the 3:05pm SYD-BNE flight to the 4:05pm SYD-BNE flight and adds on ~$1200 to itinerary as it has decided to price as a Flexible booking rather than Sale.

Good to know.
Was just interesting that it appeared to offer a lot of different flights (the MH metal) and a bunch of 3-leg flights, that aren't shown if you just do a simple return booking.

And the scenario where it offered me a Qf flight to SIN, then JQ (QF code) to KUL, but on the alternative button offered EK (QF code) direct for negative $51

One of my biggest bugbears with the Qantas booking engine including multi-city is the limited choices available littered with JQ options.

But I guess that discussion is for another thread.

When looking at flying into china via the QF Engine, you can book QF to HKG and then KA Codeshare on CX to PEK or the CX codeshare on KA.

Trying to book the actual CX flight that it gives as the KA codeshare.. doesnt work...
