A question about lounge guests.
Say I am eligible for one guest at the Qantas Melbourne Flounge. I am on a 10am flight, but my guest's flight isn't until after lunchtime.
Is my guest allowed to use the flounge until her flight, or does she have to leave when I leave?

Many thanks for clarification.

The guest can enter the same time as you and stay until their flight starts boarding. They don't have to leave when you do.

What a rort! It means mere plebs and peasants can in theory dine out on first class lounge food and liquor for the whole day! Qantas MUST change this policy, I am going to write to them now to recommend that this loophole be closed SCHNELL!!!**

Last time I did something like this at SYD F I was advised that the guest needed to leave when my flight boarded, though it wasn't enforced.
This is what I thought the answer was, too.
I guess you gots to keep in mind that the people running the lounge are going to be much more alert to such things if it’s busy - extremely unlikely, but they might keep in mind that a visitor has come in and they could (although unlikely) ask ‘em to leave without their … ‘sponsor’. Anyone who can remember the names of a coupla hundred people for 3hrs, in order to be able to wish passengers a good flight by name when they leave the lounge, can remember stuff like that if they want to.

I have also taken in a friend who was on a later flight. When I departed, I actually asked about my friend and was told she could remain until her flight. That is what I expected. In J lounges a couple of times, I have left before the non-member without any issues subsequently for them. As mentioned upthread, the desk agents just would not remember the plebs who came in with a sponsor.

How many guests can you take into a QP? Can WP take more? I'm a VA WP and can take three guests at a time. That would be harder to track if they wanted to follow up I guess.

Was that reduced at some point? Back when VA and NZ had their closer relationship I was told (as an NZ "Elite") that I was equivalent to a VA Plat and could take in 5.

The rule is
Must be travelling on a (QF, JQ partner) flight the same day

Nothing in the conditions about must leave when the host goes boarding

So if the guest makes trouble in the lounge after the sponsor left, will the sponsor still in trouble? For example if the guest took CX138, follows the sponsor who is travelling on CX100, then gets intoxicated...

Yes. There's been precedences for this especially with people guesting randoms in in acts of kindness and the random then proceeds to go nuts.

5 guests when you’re already excluding kids it’s pretty excessive IMO.

You can always use lounge passes for the odd occasion you have a few extra.

Yep, very generous rules.
I’m not sure how many people do it but in effect you could be on the first flight out and your guest could be on the last flight out and hypothetically spend almost a full day in the lounge. Not sure why anyone would though.
