Just heard that Qantas will soon be opening a lounge at Queenstown Airport, with all the JetStar flights this will come in very handy :D

Having read the link above - " Qantas passengers who are eligible for lounge access are currently shunted into Air New Zealand's Koru Club "
Well thats news to me and I've been flying out of Queenstown for many years !! Looks like I missed out there!!

As did I! I've been to ZQN a few times over the last few years and never a word from anyone.

When I got access 18 mths ago we were given invites when checking in - we were on a Qantas flight, not Jetstar though.

Does this mean that Emirates will be flying to Queenstown or are they referring to the existing codeshare arrangement?

Mr jojen & I flew out of Queenstown on Thursday. We were handed a pass to enter the Koru club. There was soup ,cold bread rolls ,yummy cheese, rice crackers , fruit, muffins. Wine was available as well as other drinks , no ice.

The lounge is before security, and flight was called rather early to allow time go through.

The lounge was ok but nothing special. Am sure the new lounge will be a lot better !!!

Same here. I've never been advised by the QF check in staff at ZQN to use the Koru Club?

Any updates on this, opening date ?

Have a flight in July and deciding between ZQN-AKL-MEL on QF/EK(J) or ZQN-MEL on NZ.

The Manaia lounge at CHC is more than adequate so ZQN will be a welcome addition. CHC is comfortable and spacious but I will add I've never seen it more than 50% full. Seem to remember the wifi password had a space in it, i.e. two words, which I haven't seen much elsewhere.

Anyways I booked NZ ZQN-AKL and then EK AKL-MEL with their recent J sale ;)

I should be able to access the NZ ZQN lounge with my VA Gold status and then of course the EK or QF lounges in AKL

QF have posted an update

New Premium Lounge at Queenstown Airport 22 May 2014

Scheduled to open in July, Queenstown Airport Corporation (QAC) has signed an agreement with aviation ground-handling company PlaneBiz who will fit out and manage a new premium airline lounge prioritised for Qantas, Jetstar and Emirates customers.

The Manaia Lounge - which translates to Protector of Land, Sea and Sky in Maori - will be located on the first floor of the terminal and cater for up to 75 guests offering uninterrupted views of Queenstown’s world-famous Remarkables mountain range.

Features will include comfortable and stylish furnishings, dedicated bathrooms, complimentary WiFi, newspapers, hot and cold beverages including bar service, and freshly prepared food.

The new lounge comes at an opportune time for customers as Qantas increases its three flights per week Sydney to Queenstown service, with daily flights during the ski season.

The additional* services will be operated by Qantas’ fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft and offer inflight entertainment, food and wine and checked luggage as part of our full service offering.

The additional services will finish on 24 October 2014. The amended schedule as follows:

6 June - 2 July 4 per week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

4 July - 31 August Daily

1 September - 24 October 5 per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday)

Qantas customers eligible to access the lounge include Qantas Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers, Qantas Club Members and customers travelling in Business.

I landed a 767 sim there in April, but only just I might add :p

So I'd say fat chance for EK to operate there on anything but a codeshare unless they plan to downsize their aircraft flying to Australia.

As for lounge access, ever since I became a QP member in 2009, I've either had access to the Koru Club, or been given a voucher to use in the airport to apologise for the lack of access to a lounge.

Thanks Markis!

However I am now flying ZQN-AKL on NZ in Y... then AKL-MEL on EK J

So I will have access to the Koru lounge due to VA Gold

Me too. In fact I asked about a lounge last year, and was told there was nothing for Qantas or Jetstar. I also forgot about the Manaia lounge leaving CHC last week:oops:
