Qantas link downgrade

It is rumoured that Qantaslink is downgrading the Dash 400 on the Adelaide - Port Lincoln route. This is to overcome the passenger screening cost at Port Lincoln. Surely in this day, we the passengers, are used to absorb these costs in ticketing. Surely safety is paramount in our skies, and not put a $$ value on it.

I always thought it was based on the number of seats.

That said. If we needed screening for aircraft smaller than a Q400. ie. less than 74 seats, surely it would be required.

yes, so what? Regional Express dont screen passengers at most airports, its partly why they manage to remain a profitable and sustainable carrier!

By not wasting money on security there will be more available for safety.

So what are they replacing it with? Hard enough for me to get my clients on now. Don't need reduced seats!

Surely this is less to do with getting around security requirements and more to do with the consolidation of Q400's to the East Coast that was announced in November, as part of a wider cost reducing program. To be fair, it does make sense that they're looking at keeping similar aircraft together, not spread out between multiple bases.
