Qantas jet in scare landing......

A lot has been made of the "what if" this happened more than an hour out. One can speculate until the cows come home, but if this was due to liquids escaping from the galley, one would anticipate the bulk of liquid disposal from the galley would be either after each meal service (which could be >1 hr out), and with fair quantity of disposal (hot water, ice etc, what else?) during preparations for landing (which is usually going to be <1 hr out).

I was on QF2 from BKK on Tuesday and arrived Wednesday morning. Cabin crew were discussing the incident and confirmed that it was "water related". Given the problems - Qantas were benevolent and I managed to get myself upgraded. I wont tell you from where to where.....

Customers were put up in Hotels, blah blah blah.

I was also on the ill fated QF108 from LAX in August (or Sept?) which had an aborted take off - blew most of the tyres and was delayed 14 hours.

I was getting a little annoyed with this coverage as well last night. They kept saying that the aircraft lost all power - it didnt, it had power both in the engines (slightly more important than IFE) and in the backup power. If anuything this is a compliment to Boeing - their systems work! As I understand it from the articles posted here - even if the backup power had failed the aircraft could still be flown - just without comms and navigation - albeit fairly disasterously I guess.

Going back to the waht ifs though - what if the wings had fallen off or the engines exploded or....

With no comms or navigation mobile phone use would be unlikely to interfere with anything :) .

More to the point I wonder if QF flight decks have a portable aviation band transceiver stored away somewhare?

And ignoring that there would , I posit, an airport within 1 hour away on the LHR-BKK run

I love this quote from a passenger:

My favourite quotes were when ACA was desperately trying to get a scared passenger reaction and obviously failed.

Interviewer 'Were you scared for your life?'
Person 1 'No?'

Interviewer 'What about when you landed, bumpy, scary?'
Person 2 'No, we didn't even know there was a problem'

:p

Two Words Storm - Teacup

Notwithstanding the whole Indian Cricket fiasco and The US Primaries, its fairly slow in the news department at the moment hence the beat-up. As much as we all criticise Qantas, their systems (and their PR machine) work well.

Sorry nutcase wasnt trying to offend - just joshing. Anyone who flies regularly will have issues at one time or another!

And agree this is blown out of proportion - it'll be old news very quickly once some real news happens. And QF settles with the a/c engineers.

No Sweat - Wasnt offended. Far from it. More synical regarding the media to tell you the truth. "Power" and "electricity" are 2 different things - but not to journalists

Oh, you bet... What they really wanted to hear was that passengers scribbled letters to their loved-ones on the back of menu-cards, or held onto each-other desperately as the stricken aircraft sunk steadily toward the thick, cruel Bangkok haze, the only sound; apart from the wind-noise outside; a lone Bugler at the back of economy playing the Last Post, and a person quietly sobbing as they gazed at a photo of their beloved, carried in their wallet...

And the coverage in that bastion of journalistic excellent and editorial integrity, the :evil:Daily Telegraph:evil: , wasn't much better, and the only reader comments they got were a self-serving rant from a LAME, a few commentators who think that QFA Executives get paid too much, and a couple whining because last time they flew QF they "didn't get the bassinet row and then the AVOD didn't work and isn't it the worst injustice in the history of civilization and we won't fly QF ever again".

... Anyhoo, I need a Xanax and a Scotch.

I just love the sense of drama that you've created with your last posting. Perhaps the only thing missing is the soundtrack.

"There's got to be a Morning after" by Maureen Mc Govern (Posiedon advenure)

or

"We may never love like this again" (Towering inferno) should be playing in the backgound during this story.

Don't forget their wretched siblings: The Herald-Sun, The Courier Mail, The Advertiser.

More from the 'wretched' parent:
QANTAS has found more ... cracked drip trays in its jumbo jet fleet ...

"There were some instances of cracks," a Qantas spokeswoman said.

"They were immediately repaired and the aircraft have been cleared."

The Australian understands cracks or other defects were found in as many as six 747 aircraft.

Oh, so the whole story is due to a simple leak?! ;)

Undoubtedly not, but the comment published by the :evil:Daily Telegraph:evil: had more to do with justifying the pending industrial action by QF engineers.

would depend on when the media want to run the story i guess

Well, Britney Spears had just been released from Hospital, so that undoubtedly took precedence in the News Room.
