Qantas involuntary upgrades to Business Lounges

In Canberra this happens regularly... always a nice start to a trip.

Now it’s been several times in Sydney catching the 2055 flight to Adelaide.

They seems to close the QC around 2020 (or earlier)
By then there’s just the one flight left going to Brissy, CBR, Darwin, Adelaide and Melbs

A few years ago I noticed that SYD Qantas Club had delicious soy sauce bbq chicken wings that the Business Lounge didn't have... I have to admit there were a few times "downgraded" myself for some finger licking chicken wings lol

Came out of Perth on a recent Monday night and they closed the QC at 6pm and directed the dozen or so passengers to the Business Lounge. Nice surprise.

This is not new. It happens regularly. Later in the evening when the lounges get fairly empty they close the QANTAS Club and direct everyone to the business lounge. This would help to reduce labour costs.

I've noticed it has happened in Melbourne many times.

It also helps get passengers away late in the day, especially if they are wanting to call flights early, or shuffle people forward -- only have to make one call in one lounge.

Yes, there is also the ability for staff coverage to be tailored to ensure that staff get to balance work-life balance

My wife loved the Taittinger Prélude ‘Grands Crus’ cuvée that they used to have at BA Galleries First. We would have been there in the mid 2010s, so that might be it.
