Qantas International CEO resigns

it's probably difficult to get a true grasp of how bad things are, due to some creative accounting. Obviously QF dom does very well, but does QF dom pick up some of QF INT costs ??? Was a lot of talk not long ago, about QF picking up a lot of JQ costs, which made JQ profits look better than they were.

Or vice versa: to make QFi look even worse, allocate more of the overheads per passenger kilometre to it not the domestic flying.

A great way to get rid of a manager the CEO doesn't like.

The 777-200s numbers don't stack up at all well compared to the 777-300. Most of the pilots would have preferred to see a 777 mix as well

But the range of the 300 was quite a bit less than the 200ER (both released 97/98). The 300ER didn't come out til mid-2000s.

At the time of the 747ER order I assume QF wanted the extra range so it wasn't limited on US routes.

Obviously a what might have been exercise but I expect QFs fleet would look quite different today had they gone down the 777 route.

I disagree with many here but I admire AJ. He's managed to turn Qantas into a highly profitable airline and his masterpeace back then when he grounded the entire fleet to silence the pesky unions was exactly the kind of firm and to the point action I would want my CEO to take if I was to hold shares in a particular company. Plus, he was very outspoken about our often backwards politics here and openly supported the movement to finally, finally get Marriage Equality. For that last one alone he deserves a medal if you ask me. A rainbow colored one :D

And not having any of these sh%%tty 777s in its fleet is one of Qantas' biggest advantages in my mind. I just hope it will be the A350 for Project Sunrise.

Looks like I’m a pesky union member ;)

If you are, you're a pesky member of a minority. Only 14 per cent of private sector employees are union members, yet they hold us to ransom through strikes when they feel like it. And then there's the CFMMEU's forthcoming 10 days without a brick or steel beam laid on Victorian building sites. Nice holiday if one can get it, but the rest of us pay.

I’m certainly not pesky , just stand up for my conditions every time our EBA is up for renewal and the company wants to take conditions away. I’ve been on strike once And it’s certainly not whenever you like, by law you must give the company 29 days notice that you’ll be taking protected action otherwise it’s illegal and fines and dismissal of employment will occur . I’m not privy to the CFMMEU actions , as I’m a member of the RTBU

You are actually, because the RTBU was present at a Port of Melbourne blockade even though the subject matter had nothing to do with buses, trains or trams. Just another example of union busybodies showing 'solidarity' that cost the Australian economy - including every consumer - millions in extra costs. Ask farmers what they think of these union actions!

Ok we will leave it there otherwise we will be off topic

As a union member in the private sector we carry the freeloaders who happily accept pay rises, benefits and conditions won by union members who are prepared to fight for all employees in that workplace.

As a 'pesky minority' I am giving far more to the majority than many other people who denigrate us.

qf (and aj) were saved by a collapsing oil price.
everything else is tinkering at the margins

...a collapsing fuel price PLUS keeping charging the fuel surcharge, by simply folding it into the base fares.

Sheer Management Brilliance.

As I recall the Aircraft Engineers did give the required notice, which then forced QF to re-schedule/cancel the flights which were to be affected. On the morning of the strike, the Union would then call the strike off, so the disruption to all concerned was nugatory. Any wonder Joyce did what he did. Very similar to what Sir Peter Abeles had to do with the annual Easter baggage handlers strike against Ansett many years before. Its called shi..ing in your own nest.
