Qantas Health Insurance - what are the thoughts of those that have it?

Does QF health insurance pause cover when you’re overseas ??
I thought that current health insurance regulations pretty much meant every insurer had to offer the same sort of features/benefits, and there was little to distinguish but for the amount of benefits paid on each level of cover, annual limits, etc.

In any event, yes:
Members can apply to suspend their health insurance for reasons of financial hardship, or overseas travel. Members must be with Us for 12 continuous months before being able to apply for a suspension. Financial hardship suspensions must be for a minimum 2 months and a maximum of 3 months. Overseas travel suspensions must be for a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 24 months

I doubt it (nor would others) because they’re still on the hook to cover us if we get back alive.
Qantas Health said:
To resume the Policy Holder will need to call Us within one month of the date of return to Australia.

In the case of an overseas travel suspension, resumption of your Policy will be backdated to the date of return to Australia, with the applicable arrears requiring payment.
So long as you're conscious within a month of return!

Well, from my experience, it's better to focus on what the plan actually covers and if it matches your health needs. I chose my insurance based on the coverage and how it fit with my lifestyle.

Differences in policies are marginal, as required by law. Interesting now i have read this

Of course, everyone's situation is different

In my experience, choosing a health insurance plan that meets your specific health needs is crucial. I picked Cigna Global Insurance Plan because it covers functional medicine, which suits my lifestyle well.

Given the way we live and eat today, taking good care of our health is more important than ever. That's why I decided to take a 'how old your body is' to understand my current health and body condition. This test looked into my genetic background, my chances of getting chronic diseases (based on family history and other factors), and how my genes are expressed.

Following the test, a health coach gave me a tailored exercise plan, a personalized diet, and various supplements. After sticking to this regimen for a few months, I feel as energetic as I did when I was 20. Best of all, my insurance covered all the costs.

Having received notice tonight of the premium increase, which for Silver plus will be $90 a week for a couple, I'm dumping it and now looking at returning to BUPA which is now much cheaper. Anyone else?

$312.38-301.63= $10.75/m increase for me, silver plus advanced hospital single

When comparing, ensure ou check out each fund's 2024 rate whenever their increase kicks in

In March 2023 I transferred from a company sponsored GU family health plan to QF / NIB Silver Plus Advanced Hospital. The original premium was $660 per month. This increased to $686 in October 2023 and will increase again to $711 from 1 April - about 7.5% in 12 months. Service Levels are significantly less than experienced through GU. The ability for Call Center staff to fix things appears to be limited.. Claims get paid quickly.

Well it's interesting. Qantas appeared as first in the Govt website, BUPA didn't even appear as top five. Even when using 2024 figures. But the premium that was stated was lower than my current. I wonder if it's a "punish loyal member' thing. I'll do a quote with new policy from Qantas. It's a lot of post tax dollars though, isn't it.

Yep. If I create a new Policy its $19 a week cheaper. Same cover. Same excess. Same ages.

So, it seems like I can't do a new policy with Qantas. Ok. Off to BUPA or anywhere else.

@Pushka that doesn't sound right with the regulations in the health insurance industry, i strongly suggest phoning to work out what's happening there.

@ChrisGibbs all funds must announce and get govt approval to change premiums by 1 April every year, last year's increase with Qantas was delayed but announced around when you joined.

Yep it looks bad on all the funds that delayed premium increases, having 2 in less than 12 months as a result as they move back to normal pattern.

But which bit sounds wrong? Anyways I’ve just organised BUPA for exactly the same cover for $1000 a year less with same excess as Qantas. The same as I posted earlier. We have been paying $84 a week. Maybe they argue the points are worth it. They aren’t.

So I just visited BUPA. Asked for exactly the same cover without telling Agent current one. He did the maths. My pricing was correct at $72 a week. I then told him Qantas so he looked it up. He agreed that the policies were identical. I showed him the email I’d received. He couldn’t understand why ours was $92 and that a new policy which we couldn’t get for some reason was cheaper. Bye Qantas.

I’m in corporate HCF. Interesting that the same silver plus hospital is a whopping $50 less per month compared to their regular offering (which is only slightly cheaper than that being offered by QF).

For anyone looking for insurance, worth finding out if your employer has any deals with health insurance corporate schemes.

Not economic for me, was more than 1000 per year higher than my HCF pricing.
Yep. That’s what I found too. New policies on the other hand can be had for that reduced price but as an existing member I wasn’t able to do that.
