Qantas has changed our flight - why?

We have family travelling from o/s. They booked all of their domestic flights from europe. We tagged along & booked on the same Qantas flight on 29 Dec from SYD - ADL QF751 (dep 1230, arr 1405).

The reason this flight was originally chosen was because of the time it arrives, as we could then check in straight away rather than waiting around & that it served lunch rather than a refreshment. This morning I received an email notifying me that our booking has been changed to be on QF747 - arr at 1240 with no lunch served.

My initial thought was that the orginal flight has been cancelled but it is still appearing on the website.
Why would they change us?

Is there a way to confirm all other 10 members of our group have been allocated to the same alternative flight?

Just thought i'd ask the questions here before calling QF.

Does your booking give you the option of accepting the change, they normally do.
I'd be calling them and getting them to change you back to the original flight.

If you have their booking reference, you can use Manage Your Booking to find out.

Yes it does, i'm on hold now - what other reasons would there be for them to change us if the actual flight hasn't been cancelled??

By the way, I was on a lunchtime flight from MEL to BNE and we were served a miserable meat pie... Good luck and hope yours will be more substantial!

UPDATE - 20mins on hold, & on the phone for a total of 40mins I have some answers. The original flight was actually cancelled in JULY but notifications to individuals to move to another flight were only sent in the last couple of days.
They have since put on the original flight back on.

I enquired about the family members & Qantas were able to confirm that their German TA confirmed the acceptance to the earlier flight back in July - obviously without letting the passengers know.

Qantas have made some notes on ALL bookings, including another Sydney couple's (& linked them up) to allow a further change for each passenger once the actual flight is decided on to ensure that they will be on the same flight.

Now to contact the Germans & alert them to contact their TA to move them BACK to the original flight!
