Qantas Green frequent flyer tier

The whole carbon offsetting for flights is really a complete joke.... Do ppl actually think it's genuine!
No, but rather than 100 posts whinging about it, people are using this thread to work out if it's a financially advantageous deal for us and how to achieve it most effectively if so.

I care as much about the marketing spin as I do about QF advertising getaway sales to places that are absolutely not "getaways" or the choice of products that colesworth choose to offer bonus points on and whether they are socially responsible or not. Nobody cares.

The claim that it takes an additional flight above and beyond one that you were already going to take to achieve this is what my reply to you was about, not the bona fides of the marketing campaign - you can add it on to any upcoming flight within the 12 months, and you'll have achieved that particular requirement. Pretty simple.

Well 11% of pax care as that's the figure QF gave already adding carbon offset to their flights. So not quite nobody.
This scheme may push it upto 20% & watch QF advertise that.

BTW 100posts a little exaggerated, I'm simple giving my view on this scheme, hardly a whinge, you seem to be whinging at my post. The thread is simply about the Green tier which I'm posting about.

Now back to working out the semantics of qualifying.

The only reason I'm interested in doing this is to get the SC. I have never paid to carbon offset any flights before. I'll probably do a one way booking so I only have to offset one flight.

Recent (eu) research suggests pax don't put their money where their mouth is. Will be fascinating to see if this changes anything.

So I just did the survey and it doesnt show on my progress. Not prepared to spend any points or $ until Im confident the activity is recognized.

Are others seeing their activity register immediately?

Nothing immediate just yet, I think it will take time to get into the system.

Yup, same here. I’m also reluctant to spend another cent until I see the program recognizing activity to date.

Terms said that one is within 7 days of completion

I’ve now got the required 5 items, but only one (an earlier flight offset) is showing for me at the moment.

I started the day with 0 leaves showing and have 1 now, for home/car offset that I made today (before 11am ADST too, living dangerously) - another 3 not yet recognised.

Interesting the T&C's of the bonus status credits or points state that a selection must be made within 90 days of achieving Green tier status. Sounds like it behaves like the loyalty bonus.

In this instance I think I'm going to time mine so I attain Green tier within a few weeks of my membership year ending so I can carry the status credit selection forward into my next membership year. No point taking them this membership year as I've already maxed out my rollover so adding them now would make no difference to my starting position next membership year.

Did the 4 tasks but nothing posted yet. To be fair, I did it yesterday afternoon but hopefully it will show up within the 24 hour period.

9/3 - Completed the quiz, donation, Qantas Store carbon offset, home/car carbon offset
10/3 - 3 of the 4 now confirmed, marked as done bar the Qantas Wellbeing quiz

Now thinking of the hotel where I can use the $100 voucher or a new flight booking....

Keep your voucher, book an award flight, carbon offset it, wait up to 7 days to get your offset recognized, cancel your award for free.

Surely, people are just offseting a single person and no car.... Its only a small lie as i do own a car, but live alone. I am annoyed though this figure seems based on how much they can milk from you rather than the reality of living in a locale with already 100% offset electricity, which is what the ACT has done.

That is such a good idea. I have no use for the SC this membership year, but next year they will be useful.

My only question is per the T&Cs, if I achieve Green Status this memebrship year, accept my SC after my anniversary, am I able to double tap with next years reward?
The choice of 10,000 Qantas Points or 50 Status Credits or three tonnes of Carbon offset must be made within 90 days of achieving Green tier status. Limit of one reward per individual per Membership Year.

Has anyone worked out which state or territory has the lowest fee for offsetting a single person no-car household?

Reading the T&C's I'm interpreting this as you'll only be granted one green reward per membership year then you have 90 days to claim it. If you happen to claim your previous year's green reward in your next membership year, this wouldn't preclude you from being granted a green reward in your new membership year once you attain again.

This is the same logic that applies to the loyalty bonus. You can carry it forward into your next membership year if the timing is right and it won't impact your ability to receive another loyalty bonus in your new year.

I'll roll those dice. Thanks for the clarity. Looks like an easy way to get a bonus 100 SC next membership year.
If in 4 months it throws an error I'll report back 😆
