Not just airlines. I'm over 50 and the last time we went to a bar in Sydneys Oxford st,with my partners 18 yr old nephew - we were carded.
I said to the bouncer - how fabulous - you think I'm only 17, he said sorry- we card everyone to make sure you have id incase the club is put into lockdown for some sort of police raid

Great place, sounds like my sort of establishment.

Try being is the USA where there are states that have legislated that anyone purchasing retail liquor get's to be "carded".

That's Anyone - irrespective of apparent age ...

Correct...my wife had to walk back to the airport motel we were staying in to get her ID and go back to the store. She was closer to 40 than 35 at the time. The shop assistant was very apologetic but said that there was no way she could sell us any liquor without ID

Usually I have ID on me along with whatever cash I carry, not a problem ;)

We do usually as well but she just took a $20 note from my wallet and went next door to the shop to get a 6pack so we could sit on the balcony and watch the planes landing at LAX also just next door

Sounds like a great afternoon/evening/morning

I have been told by an extremly reliable source, that the reason is, wait for it, be surprised, cost cutting!

Wow, they must have been serving a lot of booze to underage passengers if it's worth a cost cuttting exercise. But if it's from a reliable source, I believe it 100%.

And it's good to see that Qantas are still getting hard at their age .

On a recent flight in J my 14year old daughter (who was sitting next to me) was surprised to be offered wine with dinner (she declined) but then a bit shocked when addressed as "Mrs" cat... Not as offended as her 11 year old sister seated behind her who was twice addressed as "Sir":p

The thing I dislike is when travelling once with my (then 25. YO) daughter it is assumed we are married. We shared a hotel room on a biz trip and Mrs GPH went to great lengths to ensure we had a twin room , no such luck. Even the booking said MISS GPH.

She does also still now at 30 get asked for ID.
