Qantas Freuwnt Flyer Points use

I have over 1 million QF FF points but don't seem to be able to use them Tried to book business class fare one year in advance to Europe, yet no luck.
Any suggestions?

To improve chances of getting awards

- book well ahead (or last minute)
- be only 1 or 2 pax (much harder to get 4 or more award seats on same flights than just 1 or 2), alternatively be prepared to travel on different flights at least some of the way
- be flexible over flights, routings and dates (there are lots of options to europe)
- avoid peak travel dates (school holidays, southern summer, northern summer, Friday through Monday)
- avoid peak travel times (daytime flights may have better availability than overnight ones)
- keep checking for availability

Agree with what Kiwi Flyer has to say.

How many passengers? Where do you want to go? London? If not, then have you considered using points to get to London and then a paid ticket to final destination.

I have just tried a dummy booking for next Sep and there is business class availability for travel 5 Sep 07 SYD-LAX-LHR and returning 26 Sep 07 LHR-SFO-SYD. Cost is 256,000 FF points + taxes & surcharges.

Sometimes you need to think outside of direct routes, CX to Paris is one I used and then paid for commuter or train to London. Also Finair thru Bangkok or HK.
QF has less flights per week to Europe than CX who also have more seats out of Mel or Syd to HK, then 3 planes to LON.

Have you tried looking for economy class availability?

Just because you can't find business class award seats does not mean you are unable to use your points.

How about purchasing an economy class seat and using the points to upgrade to business class - assuming of course that you earned the million QF FF points from being a frequent flyer you will likely have at least Gold FF status to get a reasonable priority on the upgrade waitlist. But if you earned the million FF points from frequent spending on credit cards, the lack of frequent flyer status will not make that a good option.

For a few more points you can get more flexibility out of the OneWorld Award. More routing and airline options available, as well as up to 5 stopovers along the way.
