Qantas frequent flyers fear fare increases | The Australian

QANTAS is set to launch its new two-tier frequent flyer system today, amid fears that many of the airline's new "Anyseat" tickets will cost several times more than current awards.

Qantas will unveil the new system at a press conference today, but Frequent Flyer members asked to complete a survey for the airline were able to connect to a special website and believe they already have an inkling of the kind of premiums people will pay.

Several posted examples on the website frequentflyer. com.au.

Examples quoted include a return Anyseat economy fare to London, including taxes, costing 294,367 points.

A couple of good quotes from Admin in the article too!

Does anyone else get angry when the new FF ad comes on TV? Especially when it seems to think that flying in a hot air balloon is more important than flying on a Qantas jet...

I think a hot air balloon is a very appropriate symbol of the new enhanced program full of the hot air of QF management.

... and also for point redemption cost inflation with subsequent point value deflation. ...

I agree that the new anytime awards do not appear to be great value for long haul flights but is it the end of the QFF program as we know it? I don't think so. It is now 3 weeks since its introduction and I have not seen any indication that FF points for classic award seats are going to increase or that there has been a reduction in the number of classic award seats available.

Using examples like finding limited availability to DPS, or BKK, is not a by-product of the new anytime award system but rather the popularity of the route and how you need to get in very early to book classic awards seats. Do the mathematics. If there are no classic award seats on a route and the anytime award seat does not look like good value then purchase the ticket instead.

If there were going to be an increase in points required, they would have given the six month notice now, as they did with a hanful of other terms/conditions. You never know, the AnySeat thing could even take pressure of raising the points required.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Never say never but I don't think an increase in FF points required for classic awards or even less availability is not going to happen anytime soon. In these hard times you do not want to further alienate your loyal FFers.

It could well be a blessing in disguise.
