Qantas Frequent Flyer Account Hacked

Last Thursday evening my Qantas Frequent Flyer Account got hacked. I received an sms at 9 pm saying that my pin had been rest. I then received 3 other sms about 10-15 mins apart saying thank you for shopping on the Qantas Reward Shop and relevant reference numbers. Unfortunately the FF office and loyalty shop did not open until 7 am and 8 am respectively next day Friday. I promptly called the next morning at 7 am and after some process and resetting my pin number someone had purchased multiple digital gift cards draining my account to only 2900+ points. The lady at Frequent Flyer was very helpful and sympathized with my situation. I am also in the process of booking return flights from European Holiday for my wife and I using my points for Oct 2020. I needed to get a Stat Dec signed stating the information they required and that essentially it was not me that purchased the gift cards.

After speaking to FF Office I also had to call the Shopping Rewards Store stating the same issue. After going through that process I also had to send them a Stat Dec (with slightly different info i.e I ended up sending 2 Stat Decs). The person at the other end said that after some checking they said the digital cards went to my email address, which I relied saying no they did not. Anyway later that day on the Thursday FF Office called me back (the same lady) and said that Qantas has promptly returned my points to the full. She mentioned that as I was booking the return flights now, that they returned my points immediately. She did not know what had happened or if they could trace where the points went to.

Kudos to Qantas. Usually I bag them but I wanted to post this to say how good and quick they were.

Has anyone else had their account hacked?

i have been just hacked overnight into my qantas ff account. Someone stole my points and transferred it to a familie member I don’t have. i do have the two factor identifying code they still manage to get into my account and even change my personal details. I can even call them as they closed on Sunday. I am really angry that this is even possible.

Yes. I have had my account hacked. Qantas were fabulous and actually phoned me to check. As I had never used points for shopping or gift cards in the past, an alarm bell rang in their system somewhere.

No statutory declaration required. Points returned immediately and pin reset. All over in minutes, while I lunched with friends at coughle bay.

Have a search of how other AFF members have resolved this. You should get it resolved fairly quickly with a stat dec.

Wonder why it didn't first 2FA you first before changing PIN? The system obviously has your number and alerted you, so sounds like a system gap that should be fixed asap.

Any idea how they got your pin?

Was this recently? I hope that they didn’t raid the toaster section as there are a couple that I’ve had my eye on. 😉

It was before 2FA came in. They bought 4 or 5 Vouchers from memory.

You need to present QFF with proof of change of name for QFF to action a name change.

I have my email, full name and QFF# compromised last week due to a weak password on an online retail shop. Hacker is from China, based on IP address.

Now this hacker is trying to guess my QFF pin, the account got locked, I had to reset the pin today.

Any advice here?

I set up the security question, google authenticator enabled, sms authentication is also being used when Qantas feels like it should ask for it.

I don't want to have to change my pin each time this hacker tries its luck. Is it possible to get qantas changing my QFF# ?

When I go hacked the first time Qantas just got me to change my pin. I got hacked again weeks later. This time I ended up using a new email address and added the authentication codes and questions. No problems since.
