I was talking with a QF crew member today who mentioned that QF used to offer "safety training" or a random basis to Platinum flyers.

This is something I have been investigating and very keen to do, does anyone know of contacts in QF about learning more about this? Would prefer to not have to fly to the USA or Uk to do this training.

Not that I am an anxious flyer, just would love to jump down the slide and learn a little more about safety in flight.

As a lowly gold, doubt I'd get the offer even if it did exist ( never heard of such)
But agree that it would be interesting and exciting. I've often thought I'd love extra skills to help in the case of an emergency.

I would also be very interested in this. It might save my life one day!

I have never heard of it! And never seen it written or mentioned anywhere. And you'd expect at least one person, somewhere, on some bulletin board, to report the offer if they received it.

Haven't heard about it. Given the dangers involved in using an evacuation slide (at least in the way you would do in an emergency), I wonder if that would be part of the experience :) .

HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) courses are readily available, though probably not too cheap.
And while they're obviously geared toward helicopter escape, I reckon they'd stand you in good stead for a fixed wing emergency.

pretty sure the fear of flying course might cover safety. Not free, and I doubt Qantas would offer such a thing for free. But f the course is the point of interest this might cover it.

HUET is a whole lot of fun if you can get yourself on a course. Serious obviously, but fun to do.
