This press release came out last week. Looks like Qantas Frequent Flyer is really starting to make a concerted effort in the NZ market, adding an "online hub" for the benefit of NZ based flyers.

With the recent introduction of QFF points on NZ JQ flights, and the current free membership promo for NZ residents, I wonder how much of the NZ market they're capturing. With Airpoints in the shape that it is, I wouldn't be surprised if their hard work is indeed paying off.

FREQUENT FLYER LAUNCHES ONLINE HUB FOR NZ MEMBERS - Qantas News Room

Qantas has launched a new online hub specifically created for New Zealand based Frequent Flyer members, as it looks to expand and diversify its local membership base.

qantaspoints.com is designed to showcase the many ways to earn and use Qantas Points, with the site specific to the earning opportunities for those living in New Zealand.

The launch of qantaspoints.com follows last month’s announcement that Frequent Flyer members can now earn Qantas Points on all Jetstar New Zealand domestic flights*. In June, Jetstar New Zealand also announced it would expand its network to include four new regional destinations from December.
Qantas Loyalty CEO Lesley Grant said qantaspoints.com will help members easily understand how they can maximise their points earn and get rewarded as quickly as possible.

“We offer New Zealanders a number of opportunities to earn points for activities other than flying: there are points-earning credit cards available through ANZ, plus thousands of partner hotels around the world, as well as opportunities to earn points when hiring a car with Avis and Budget Car Rental,” she said.

NZers are so fiercely loyal to AirNZ (in my experience), I wonder how much impact Qantas could really have in that market.

Your correct in saying that most Kiwi's are loyal to Air NZ.

Although The NZ population is small any amount of inroads Qantas can make in the NZ market would hurt NZ to some extent, even if it was a 5% change in consumer behaviour on domestic flights and switching camps would impact noticeably.

Once the AAnouncement on the AKL > LAX route is announced, it will get a whole lot tougher for Air NZ , although Kiwi consumers will benefit enormously.

Guilty as charged:oops:
Don't see myself flying them in NZ but might do if a ridiculously low fare and flying for personal reasons. I do agree in general that competition is good for the customer. I think jetstar has already demonstrated there is a demand for them.

As an Ex-Pat Kiwi (in Oz) , on balance the Air NZ option and their woeful FF programme make it a non starter for me. I will stick with QF!
