Okay, so I had no hope of getting to Gold this year, I am 22 and only just been working in a graduate position for the past year and a half now. But I have lived overseas twice and am addicted to travel (aren't we all).

Anyway, clearly I am getting paid too much.... because with the email that I am guessing a lot of you just got, from Qantas, about the double status points... I couldn't help myself.

My girlfriend and I are going to Europe at the end of the year for Christmas and New Years, already booked from Adelaide on Malaysia Airlines. I have Qantas Club membership, but obviously was not going to get to use their lounges at all, despite being a OneWorld partner.

To keep my Silver Membership, I was going to do that LAN trip to Auckland that you all recommended, for June. I already have the return trip to Sydney booked. I was going to book last week at the start of my credit card cycle, but decided to wait for another month, because the prices seemed fairly static.

Anyway - I just booked return from Adelaide to Auckland, Business, for $1566, instead. $806 more than LAN.
This will score me 560 Status Credits, plus the 100 I already have, plus 30 from the Sydney trip - leaving me only 10 SC short of Gold. I can do a Jetstar flight to Melbourne to pick that up, no problemo.

Now my question is - my QC membership will be put on hold once acquired, will it not? And my partner and I will be able to use Golden Lounge for MH?

All up, with a shorter stay in Auckland and other adjustments, the trip actually works out exactly the same cost as what it would have, if I had flown with LAN instead. What an easy way to pick up Gold...

Qantas Club membership will be put on hold once you reach Gold.

And as a Oneworld Sapphire I believe you should have access to the Golden Lounge. Try the one in the sattelite terminal if you get the chance and make sure there is enough time to get to your departure gate.
