Qantas domestic seating data capture

I noticed the "seat selection" icon available this morning (prior to T-24 OLCI) for my Dom booking but could only verify window/aisle preference. Hmmm, nothing new there...

It is there for all flights I think - it just then tells you that you can't select seats...

Got to airport and was told my flight will be cancelled so was put on the earlier 20:15 flight and given boarding pass for 23J. Eventually took off 10 minutes after my original scheduled departure with original flight taking off as well with a few passengers on board. Both flights arrived in SYD late around the same time.

Went to counter for assistance and was allowed to check-in for flight 2 flights before my original flight. Was given 25A, good seat, but asked twice for forward aisle seat and the best they could do was row 28 so declined. On the aircraft 23J and 24F were both available. I was told I could sit there after take-off but someone else beat me to it. Not a big deal but I still cannot understand why I could not get one of those aisle seats at the service desk(s). :confused:
