Qantas Domestic - Reduction In Onboard Crew & Inflight Service

The reduction of a crew member isn't on all non meal 738 services. It's on a selection of medium length flights only (about 8 routes total) and still operate with 5 for lunch and dinner services.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone else noticed the recent cost cutting measures Qantas have implemented? Specifically:

1. Reduction in the number of crew on non-meal 738 flights, meaning there is now only one person checking people at the gate which consequently means Priority Boarding disappears? Have had this change confirmed by a senior FA.

2. Smaller meals and no after meal snack such as a bar or ice cream (time of day dependant) on East-West flights?

Thanks.

Definitely a reduction in catering.

Re: transcon catering, the bread roll was removed some time ago, then brought back. When it was brought back, the ice cream was removed as were cheese & crackers from the tray. The cheese & crackers are served after the meal. Cookies are also usually on offer (certainly on breakfast flights, as cheese is not offered then)

I've done three transcons in the past eight weeks. How on earth can a five hour flight (SYD-PER) be catered with just one meal? On such long flights there must be a second snack service, even if just a muesli bar and a fruit bowl on the cart. Something.

And what is with adding a brownie to the main meal tray but then handing out cheese and crackers with the tea and coffee service? Who eats a brownie with chicken terriyaki or pasta, then has a piece of cheese with a coffee? This is completely cough-about.

Totally agree, especially in August, when stronger headwinds than normal are experienced.

Always have some sort of snack in my bag and 90 minutes before landing, I ask for a hot tea.

The crew are happy to oblige.
