QANTAS Cyber Incident

That’s the bit that seems odd. Joining the dots between you and someone you work with.

Must have been more things at play than just your details from QF (or any of the myriad of other hacks).
Not in my case. I have a public profile irl. Without getting into it, these things are discoverable in this instance.

I’m not saying they got my phone number from QF either. Was just responding to the prior post with an example of someone targeting peeps. It was a data point, that’s all.

In the context of this thread, it probably would have been good to state that up front and not overly alarm peeps already concerned.

But still a cautionary tale - especially if one has their details open to the public. Scammers don’t even need to hack to get that…

Not forgetting tho, that we have also had the Optus one, the Medibank Private one, and the credit reporting one, or was it a credit card one/loan company one a few years ago.
If they can, they would probably have someone somewhere joining the dots.
If they have had the Optus one, they would have known/know what source of id was used to open the Optus account.

The poster before me talked about engaging with scammers as amusement. I wouldn’t do that because they can record your voice and use it. As my story indicated.

The problem with this forum is that it’s populated with the internet police who feel obliged to pounce on anything they consider to be a ‘discrepancy’.

Is it any wonder posters routinely say “just a data point”? Yup, that’s to avoid giving the gate-keepers anything to work with.

I’ll go now. Some posters found my post ‘informative’. Little did they know, right.
