QANTAS Cyber Incident

I also got the directly affected email, disgusting that no compensation has been offered.

Not that i was impacted by Optus breach but at least they gave free Equitax accounts to monitor identity theft.
Early days yet. At least they communicated quickly. I think k we’ll see them respond proportionate to scale and further unexpected complexities.

Sounding like they got most of the AFF members! Should we nominate a committee to negotiate points compensation with Qantas?
I mean odds are we fly more and thus have to contact QF at some point.
Also saw email in my inbox as well.

If i wwre to guess, we'll see a apolo -SC/points offer like one of the 2023 ones.

I’ve only received the two generic emails, not the directly affected email. But I guess they might be sent in batches and mine is yet to come.

I believe in Optus’s case the leak included drivers licence numbers which was much worse as that’s enough to prove your ID in many cases for credit etc.

I’m actually quite impressed with the communication. I’ve been the subject of heaps of hacks, pretty much to the point where I don’t care.

I get a lot of scam/spam calls and texts and I pretty much just treat everything as a scam unless I recognise the number calling me, if not you’re going to voicemail.

Every day it seems a new data breach.

Same email for me. All care (really no care) and no responsibility. After being caught in the Optus breach, I'm sick of being treated like dirt by these companies.

I just pullled up the emails, Optus sent 3 to me in escalating severity from oops we got hacked to we may have shared your personal data, to oops we shared your license ID - please go request a new one from VicRoads.

But no I did not get any Equifax access from optus nor a cent in compensation. Not saying that's okay, Slater and Gordon have a class action ongoing, but I couldn't let any sort of congratulations go to Optus on their handling of it, it was absolutely appalling. They lost a CEO over it.

Probably a little early for them to have offered compensation - its probably a little way down the priority list right at the moment - they are probably working through things like who, how many, what was stolen, how etc right at the moment. Once they have the other recovery actions organised and have a better handle on the scale of the incident then they will have a chance to sit down and look at compensation etc.

Disagree. They already know what was stolen it was in the press release, time is of the essence the criminals have had the data for days and may have already comitted fraud with it, free Equifax account is the least they can do given there is precedent, shouldn't take long to issue vouchers.

Qantas also should have had data breach contingency plan in place. They can always offer points later as a sweetener.

what did they offer SC/Points for in 2023? I don't remember that one
I think it was when Joyce was being forced out and they did a whole "we let you down" ans "thank you for your loyalty" type of deal. I'm pretty sure I got 75 SC but lower tier got 30SC option i believe and either that or 5k points.

I was hoping for lifetime platinum actually 🤣
LTP x 6M Frequent Flyers? Hmm.... not sure I like those chances 🤣 Still, I'd take that recompense!

BTW why green tier? I must admit that I haven't looked too closely at green tier.
I believe it's more of a sarcastic reference to Green Tier being made virtually unobtainable for residents in certain northern territories of Oz.

Also received the second email. Great...

Why do contact centres need viewing access to QFF account DOBs anyway? It'd be more secure if Qantas API returned true or false for whether a particular date matches the QFF account. 🤔

I had a very brief glance at Green Tier and it seemed like you had to be a homeowner to make it work so I didn't look any further - I could be wrong though.

I feel the backend system where they log customer service requests has been compromised. Even though they are saying 6M customers, I feel it will be most of their active members.
In the frequent flyer space, I have observed that there is a very high percentage of dormant accounts, and the percentage of active members is pretty less. So, 6M means probably everyone who keeps their account active.

Oh yes, I got my lowly 30, and was very grateful for the gift... when I read online 70 or 75 was given to others I was a little less than impressed!
