Qantas cuts 90 senior management positions

QANTAS (qan.ASX:Quote,News) is expecting to save $24 million a year after slashing the jobs of 90 senior executive.

Announcing the cuts today, the company today the reduction of one-fifth of their management numbers was part of a “one-off” fundamental review of the airline's organisational structure.

I guess that goes with the hundreds of reservations agents they must also have cut (half an hour waiting on the phone!).

This all means worse service to the travelling public, and I for one won't buy Qantas for that reason.

Whilst I understand your logic and don't disagree, could you suggest an alternate where you don't wait forever on the phone :?:

Whilst it is never good to see people losing their jobs the reported $24 million saving a year is fairly significant for a company struggling during the global financial crisis.

It would appear that the average salary of the second-tier managers losing their jobs is ~$270,000 a year. That salary range sounds extremely high to me for second-tier managers.
