Qantas Confirmed Upgrades

Not looking good at all for CRU requests..
Although, if as you mentioned earlier and domestic classic upgrades are still being processed at the time of request, then they’ll be queue jumping “confirmed” upgrades potentially by months?

Obviously it’ll be different for QFi.

No offer for me SYD - SIN (continues to CDG). CR upgrade came through though.

Yeah that's basically like saying do you want to reprice to a business class fare now without a change fee....

I suppose if it was priced cheaply some folks would just stop buying J with the hope of paying a smaller fee to upgrade when the offer comes.

Yep. That would be the upper limit (again without the extra SCs). If it it was higher, that would be La La Land.

Albeit minus points and SCs -
15,950 + (status dependent) points and 210 SCd
- easily 2-3c/ pt value and 1/4 of the way to QF Gold

If you are a CEO on say e.g. 2 mill a year, but your company will only pay for Y or PE you might be happy to pay to get a confirmed upgrade and then claim a tax deduction. This is not most people, but I think this is who it is aimed at.

A leisure traveller on an average or median wage is likely to be far less willing to pay for a confirmed upgrade.

I also suspect whilst this may be some of the opening numbers, the algorithms will be tweaked based on real world data results.

You'd be pretty bad at your job if the product you're selling (Confirmed upgrades) had a poor uptake and you didn't adjust things so it worked better.

The OP on Reddit said the price difference between PE and J was $5.6K each way on their particular date, so you're actually getting the upgrade for a 30% discount.
Doubt it if you booked a return in advance, maybe if you did a one way fare check on the day

I did one of these with AA for LAX-NRT for about $300 a couple of years back, economy to business

It's extremely easy to find dates where SYD-DFW-SYD J is $5.6K more than PE each way.
